If we sent the Mets to the AL East, they'd probably never win again.  So, of course I'm behind that decision.

No Zimmerman, Desmond is getting spelled and a rookie pitcher that has never thrown in the majors.

Eh, they're a .500 baseball team, but - man! - are they fun to watch. They just try hard every game, and that clubhouse looks like fun. That's why I'm really hesitant to support the organization drafting Bryce Harper. He sounds like he could be an incredible position player, but his attitude seems like exactly the opposite in terms of what Rizzo is trying to install in the clubhouse:

Quote
The Makeup: This should not be underrated. It's impossible to find any talent evaluator who isn't blown away by Harper's ability on the field, but it's equally difficult to find one who doesn't genuinely dislike the kid. One scout called him among the worst amateur players he's ever seen from a makeup standpoint, with top-of-the-scale arrogance, a disturbingly large sense of entitlement, and on-field behavior that includes taunting opponents. "He's just a bad, bad guy," said one front-office official. "He's basically the anti-Joe Mauer." How this plays into the negotiation or future evaluation is yet to be determined, as history has shown us that the bigger talent a player is, the more makeup issues teams will deal with. Bench players can't afford to be problems, but plenty of teams happily put up with difficult superstars.

... Not thrilled about that. The only thing I hope is that it's just maturity issues - since he's a teenager - and that he'll settle down if he's mentored and monitored in the minors. We threw away Elijah Dukes for the same toxic personality problems.

Nats improve to 10-9 by shutting out the Dodgers. Time to hit the road. I have enjoyed to going to several of the home games, and I hope this team can carry the momentum on the road.

To be fair, Triumph, the NL East is surprisingly good this year. The Braves are in last place - for now - with more wins than most NL teams have. :lol

Problem is, this is pretty much normal for this version of the Braves- good/decent pitching for the most part (3.86 team era that's inflated by Jojo Reyes' one outing and 24 something era) and weak ass hitting (.228 avg and an OPS less than .700).  For fucks sakes, Tommy Hanson has a 2.14 era and is 1-2 because our hitting fucking sucks so bad.

This is pretty much par for the course with the budget Braves of the past 8 years or so, too.  We don't have enough money to have both good pitching and hitting, so we spend the money on the one (pitching with this version of the team) and try to cobble together the other side... which means instead of an actual first baseman, we've got the Troy Glaus experiment.  Instead of signing Jermaine Dye (how the fuck is he still unsigned, by the way) we have Melkdud Cabrera and his sub .200 avg playing most games because... well fuck, even I don't know why we start that piece of shit when we could be starting Diaz or Hinske.

At some point we'll start to turn things around a bit and we'll end up being good but not good enough to make the playoffs; probably finish third again.  I fucking hate baseball.

Dye wants over $4 million. He's an awful defender, and nobody is sure if even has his power anymore (it fell off a cliff after the break).

Why would you pay $5-$7 million for a RF that will lose you games with his horrid defense, and only be able to contribute at the plate after weeks of shaking off rust (he hasn't been playing competitively) - if he can still hit for power anymore.

The Nationals offered him $3 million and he laughed at the amount. I'm glad we didn't sign him; Willie Harris and Justin Maxwell, although hitting at the Mendoza line, have won us about three games with their defense in the outfield. If Dye was out there, you're talking about a team that is 7-12.

I don't know, he was already going to make $20 million next season. Not a big deal, and it's right around the Teixeira numbers. And that's for one of the best hitters in baseball, who has become a way better fielder at his position. That means the Phillies have him locked up until he's 36-years-old. The only real danger is the possibility that his power drops off that final year. Worth the risk.

Pujols should command whatever he wants because he is the best hitter in baseball.

I just hope Dunn isn't asking for $25 million per year. :lol
