I was just making a joke about this particular trade with sell low, buying high. And Hudson is gonna turn to (relative) shit in the second half. The guy isn't striking out anyone, and it's not like he has a 2009 Joel Pineiro or Roy Halladay BB rate.

Wrong about Hudson.  Over the past month, he's been striking out more guys than earlier in the season.  And ALL of his stats are better recently.  This is pretty easy stuff to look up.

GODDAMN IT

I was thinking of when he only struck out 3 Mets last game. Livan strikes out more Mets than that.

5.36 k/9
6.25 k/9

First one is Johan Santana, second is Tim Hudson.  :rofl

But over past 28 days, Santana's K/BB has been higher!

Shhh, Santana is anchoring my staff in the auction league!

...not really, but yeah.  He's an above average pitcher at this point, not an ace.  Then again, the Braves don't really have an ace either, but all of our starters are decent to above average and our bullpen is like a rampaging Mongol Horde of yore or some shit.

re: k/bb and Hudson, he's always had more walks than you think he should because his pitches have so much fucking movement, especially that sinker.  He can't always control it but it does awesome shit.

It does suck that the team has not been able to put the whole rotation together. Olsen gets called up as soon as Strasburg is on the DL. Zimmermann and Detwiler haven't had a lot of time to work out of their rehab. I was kind of hoping that the rotation would come together. Oh well, next year. :-\

I'm happy with their arms. Everyone comes into camp healthy next season. Yay. No more surgeries! (Crosses fingers.)

I just hope if they trade Dunn and Capps that they score a 2B or OF, so we can begin to piece together a legit lineup to score some runs for Strasburg, Zimmermann, Olsen and Detwiler.

The best story out of the Nationals goes down tomorrow anyway :lol
....

When Miguel Batista filled in for superstar teammate Stephen Strasburg when the Nationals played the Braves on Tuesday, he was expecting some boos. He probably didn't think he'd end up the most hated man in Iowa.

Then he dared to insult Miss Iowa, the state's beauty queen.

"Imagine if you go to see Miss Universe, then you end up having Miss Iowa," the 39-year-old hurler said, comparing Strasburg to himself.

Katherine Connors, the reigning Miss Iowa, took a little offense to Batista's comments, and playfully invited the pitcher to walk a mile in her high heels.

"I know I can throw a pitch or two," Connors said in a statement. "The question is, can Miguel Batista walk the runway in a swimsuit?"

Batista, after seeing a picture of Connnors, admitted to the Washington Post that Miss Iowa was "gorgeous," and said his comments were not meant to insult her. He also arranged for flowers to be sent to her home in Iowa.

The story of Beauty and Batista doesn't end there though. The company that puts together the Miss Iowa USA pageant announced on Thursday that Connors will be in Washington Friday night to throw out the first pitch at the Nationals-Phillies game.

"Pageant organizers felt it would only be appropriate for Batista and Connors to meet in person and show there was no ill will," the statement says.

The organizers also offered Batista the chance to be a judge at this year's Miss Iowa pageant in October.

Yeah, after I read about it, I feel pretty good. That means we can convert our best hitting prospect, Derek Norris, to 1B. He was good at the plate, but a mediocre catch.

Yeah, I said "coming into the season" for a reason. Ramos has had a disappointing year. But I don't know why the Twins felt the need to sell low on him -- maybe they know something the Nats (and us) don't.

And Harper can move to the outfield, if that wasn't already a foregone conclusion.

Edit: Apparently Ramos was #2 in the Twins' system according to BA before the season.

Greenburg/Ryan upped their bid for the Rangers and tried to get the chief restructuring officer to cancel the auction and accept their deal. It didn't work, but it really pissed Mark Cuban off when he thought the auction might be off, which makes it seem like he's really super serious about buying the Rangers, and that he's probably going to get it. The MLB doesn't really want him as an owner, but at this point I think they'll accept anyone with money.

Good has triumphed over evil. :rock After 16 hours of courtroom drama and with bids approaching $600 Million, the Ranger's auction is apparently over with Nolan Ryan/Chuck Greenberg defeating Mark Cuban/Jim Crane. I think everyone had given up all hope of this outcome, and were already preparing for the Mark Cuban era, but somehow Ryan/Greenberg outbid them. The practical upshot of this is of course that Nolan Ryan will remain team president, which almost certainly wouldn't have been the case if Cuban had won.
