UNTIL i get my new Mame box together running arcadeVGA via a JPAC then the Saturn is of use. That said i'm pretty much just hammering Dodonpachi now, which i have the PCB for.

well, it only covers half the problems.

RSG is much better on Saturn for a start, but for some of the lesser ports i'd prefer Mame for sure.

Mame's main purpose is simply saves me money on games i don't care enough to buy
here is my main problem - in the last month :

P47, Rygar, Ajax, Phoenix x2, Magic Sword, Commando, Side Arms, Altered Beast, SPY Special project Y.

How many of those were REALLY worth shittying up my gaming area with ? I can deal with minor input lag to free up space and to keep my wallet in my fecking pocket for a bit

Some of those I wouldn't bother with anyway, just because they are available on various collections and/or are coming to XBLA.  I did the arcade board thing for a bit but it didn't last too long because of the space issue.  A MAME cab would be awesome though...I got a taste of that with a modded Xbox.

Mame isn't perfect, but it's very very good. Nothing compares to running the arcade hardware on a decent monitor, it's just godlike. However, as you say, for stuff like Rygar? That said, $5 boards galore as long as you don't shop in Japan where the prices are STUPID.

The other advantage of a Mame box linked to a cab/supergun is you can throw other emulators on there and play them through your standard arcade stick. Plus the other MASSIVE win is RGB C64, Spectrum , and NES games (which getting in "proper" hardware is a Tiler NES gutting NES hacking nightmare)

However, some games - the ones with funky timings - are a right pain in the arse via Mame. Things aren't perfect.

Well, sure.  And there are some games where the cabs and controllers/guns are just as important to the experience.  But for your average game?  I'll take one MAME cab over constantly-swapping out boards.
