battles are a bit spastic and just because I have paradigms now doesn't mean I'm actually doing anything

FYI, FF13 US version X360 is in stock at Game Hollywood
as is the PS3 version.

I'll probably just get the PS3 version so i only have the JPN and US version to piss on.

Why is this game reviewing so well 

As someone mentioned relative to a final fantasy game it hasn't reviewed that well. And even for any high profile game of its stature it hasn't reviewed especially well.

Brutal Legend which a lot of people consider a miss has a metacritic of 83. Halo ODST which a lot of people also consider a miss sits at 83 also. Final Fantasy is sitting at 82 right around that company.

Of course those scores are inflated but all videogame review scores are.

The best way to judge a mega franchise is not by the total score but by how it scores relative to how past entries have scored. That's how you know what the general consensus of the review community was relative to a particular entry in a franchise.

Final Fantasy X by comparison has a metacritic of 92. As does Final Fantasy 12.

Of course this is even if someone takes reviews "seriously" rather than just taking them as a collection of opinions and any individual can have his own opinion which is the healthy method of looking at reviews.

I suppose some people like it.  I'm not a huge fan, but there are a surprisingly large number of people that seem to be really digging it...including some which have never played JRPGs before.

Of course, JRPGs have been pretty shit this generation overall.  While I certainly don't love it, I do like it much more than most other JRPGs outside of Lost Odyssey and Tales of Vesperia.  It does some things really well (streamlined battles, NPCs saying things without needed a text box, extremely fast loading, great presentation, and one of the best JRPG soundtracks yet), but it's just too limited overall.  I think some people are praising it a bit too much...but I also think the general opinion around here was a bit overly negative.  So, a 7 or an 8 seems about right to me.
