2011 is going to be extraordinarily bad due to Sony wand and Natal. Hoping both of them bomb harder than the Virtual Boy.

2011 will still have games in development right now.  2012 will be all the peak of all this nonsense.

Although there is just too much money to be made on casual waggle lovers...

Maybe casuals will get sick of motion controls...we can hope :'(

Sony and MS are putting all their eggs in this basket. Don't expect "regular" controller games past Fall 2011.

Death rattle starts in 2013

Next gen of consoles will be underwhelming and restrictive beyond belief (laugh about that Ubisoft PC DRM now, consolites, I can pretty much guarantee you won't be laughing during the next console round - U-Play and Project Ten Dollar are test beds for some truly despicable shit headed your way soon).  None of them will sell very well.  PC is already in the middle of a fascinating act of seppuku, so the majority of the big boys will already be gone or on their way out the door by then.

Next up, convergence.  Plugging your Zune HD3, PSP GO2, DSXXLL directly into your TV,  connecting a bluetooth controller, and using that as your "console."  Download-only games bought in chunklets.  Total control on the part of the publisher, total restriction for you (with the exception that it'll be a lot easier for you to tote around and play at a friend's house).

Consoles as you know them will have vanished before ten years pass.  PC will splinter into thousands of micro-publishers making smaller games or shifting to F2P microstransaction-supported models.

their cheapness in offloading the processing from the unit to the console might be a bright spot, because from what i have read a lot of developers who were previously interested in slapping wiggle-waggle into normal games have pretty much said fuck all that because they don't want to sacrifice any performance

so, wii clones all around, easily ignorable, won't be seeing it spring up in MW3 or the like

And luckily my hardware manufacturer of choice will STILL be behind those trends!

Any console that comes out after the 360 and PS3 will only give marginal performance improvements since people have proven with the Wii that they don't give a shit about grafx.

Since nintendo lags, the rest of the industry will die and nintendo will die one generation after that.

Good one.

When the biggest software publishers (Activision + Ubisoft) are taking a very negative stance on the platform, you know you're in trouble.

Valve will be the last big hardcore PC developer. Though, don't be surprised if the X360 is the lead platform for Episode 3.

valve likes money, so no doubt it will come out on 360 at the same time, but don't kid yourself that they're doing it for anything other than mercenary reasons

their console ports will never get the attention they give to their pc releases

never

I'm pretty sure the best games will continue to be the ones using traditional gaming controls and mechanisms. Quit yer bellyaching.

On that note, what's sparking this latest round of woe-is-me negativity?

The only reason 360 versions of Valve games don't get the same amount of support as the PC version is because Valve have to deal with Microsoft every time they want to patch/update their games on console.

Considering Valve release a new patch every 2 hours, you can see how this presents a problem.

Like I said in the NPD thread, gaming has been a hollow shell of what it was.  You can tell because gameplay hasn't made a shred of evolution since late 2005.  We're now used to the idea of paying top dollar for crap sequels that aren't anything other than glorified map packs.  Or maybe a new character!  With previous generations, gameplay evolved except for this one.  Its the PC gaming mentality of thinking that expansion packs are key rather than making any improvements in gameplay whatsoever.  Its why Gears of War 3 will probably play exactly like the 2006 original but because they made a couple tweaks to the cover system, it is now suddenly awesome.

At least there will be some strides in the emulation scene to where I could probably play any arcade game before 2006 with a $600 PC rig within the next year.

:piss Uninspired PCesque map pack sequels :piss2
