Insomniac going multiplatform
« on: March 13, 2010, 02:52:03 PM »
Read this on Neogaf where someone claimed IGN said there's a rumor about them going multiplatform

Can't wait to see them spread themselves too thin on multiple platforms instead of just one, releasing a game every year.    ::)

Mediocre gaming coming to the 360  :-\

Good for them if true, but I wonder how they will do without Sony propping them up. It would force them to develop something completely new, though.

yeah, there were rumors of Bungie going multiplatform and now Insomniac.  We'll see how that pans out.

To everyone booing this, I'm 70% through Ratchet: Crack in Time and it's a great game that is making me forgive them for the utter shit Resistance 2.  I had thought Insomniac was dead and buried after R2, but Ratchet CiT is the best game they've made this gen.

Multiplatform action platformers could do really well for them and more people would get good games.  Although why do I get this feeling if they make an X360 game it will be an FPS :\

It would have been a lot better had it been a straight up Ratchet game. The Clank sections were well made, but they felt out of place. The action bits were some of the best of the series.

The space shooting bits were pretty damned lame. Nice idea I guess, but poorly executed.

meh.

I've always thought Insomniac is a somewhat over-rated dev. I'll made a prediction and say some of the buzz and high review scores would dissipate for them as a multiplatform dev.

Yeah, there are 5-15 types of gameplay and some are kinda lame like the space shooting and the planet shmup with clank.  But I feel like enough works that there's a lot of variety and fun parts.
Plus it helps that the lame parts aren't actually difficult and are pretty short.

Good news if true, Ratchet has always been the 2nd best platformer out there (yes I know Ratchet is owned by Sony.)

I wonder who will publish their games. I can see Warner being interested.

The Ratchet campaign is somewhere between Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal for me. The Clank puzzles don't measure up to Giant Clank, and the space combat is meh. The actual mini-planets you visit in space are cool, though. Mostly platforming there.

Wearing my Agents of Doom shirt right now. :smug

Is Ratchet: CiT really that good? I'm in the mood for some platforming.

I wouldn't say it's that good

But it's a fun and pretty saturday morning cartoon game with good action & good (still easy, but at least very frequent now) platforming.
Some of the sidestuff is less stellar (plane shooting) but it takes all over 3 mins here and there and is easy and kind of fun in a super simple tempest but shallower way.

I guess the Clank stuff is give or take depending on if you like time/shadow puzzles like Braid.  I enjoy them, so they add some variety between the shooting & jumping.

It's a nice looking game that is completely inoffensive yet fun and not too long, aka. saturday morning cartoon game!
I'm definitely enjoying it and feel surprisingly satisfied (didn't expect much after Resistance 2 and the first Ratchet PS3)

Plus the game has hover boots, which make the mini-planets oh so much better since you can blow through them really quickly.

Insomniac opened up a new studio in North Carolina last year. Its probably those guys who are working on this new multiplatform title while the main studio is still doing Resistance 3 (or it could be the other way around).
