they're inconsistent and not as good as the series.  The series didn't really need it like 0079 did.

The zeta movies are cool.  Not for the story, because they're a butchered version of zeta, but for the sweet awesome re-animated fights.  Movie 3's entire finale battle which is like the last 5 eps of Zeta is 80% completely new animation and it's badass.  I liked movie 1 & 3.  Movie 2 changes the four arc so much that it's painful to watch.

Yep, it's the truth. I started out as a dub only guy and for a while that was really all I'd listen to. Then, for some reason, I started listening to the original Japanese tracks and I haven't gone back since then. Most of the dubs just feel squeaky, breathless, and lack the proper emotions. It's not always the case, there are good dubs out there that I'll listen to if it's the only alternative [like if I'm watching it on TV], but it's certainly not my first choice anymore.

as for the sub vs dub horseshit it depends on which one i'm more comfortable with.

Its obvious a lot of dubs are not good but there are some truly nice ones, to the point that i don't give a flying fuck about the sub (Cowboy Bebop, Yu Yu Hakusho and a lesser extent Samurai Champloo )

Finally finished watching Gundam Zeta. It was pretty awesome, especially when Kamille suddenly gained super powers and him and Haman got sucked into an alternate universe. But man, the final battles was awesome, and everybody had sweet Gundams (Qubeley, The O, Hambrabi, Bound Doc, Psyco Gundam, Zeta, Hyaku Shiki, everybody was flying around in pimp Gundams in this series), it just ended so abruptly it was kinda weird. So, Scirocco absorbs Kamille's soul and turns him into a distinguished mentally-challenged fellow somehow, okaaaay? And then it just ends without showing any of the repercussions of this huge war they just fought, not to mention Axis just flies away to rebuild their army. It made everyone's sacrifices seem rather pointless.

Should I watch ZZ now? Will it make feel better at all, or should I just watch some Char's Counterattack?

ZZ is a continuation of stuff introduced in Zeta but it doesn't really deal with the main themes of 0079 and Zeta.  If you haven't seen it before, ZZ might be worth watching. It's not exactly that great or important to enjoying CCA, but it wraps up stuff with Haman Karn and has some familiarities with Zeta.

btw, I think it was brought up earlier in this thread, but the Zeta movies changed the ending of Zeta slightly to make ZZ less relevant.  Take that as you will.

speaking of not-so-great UC gundam, I watched F91 one again the other day and liked it more than I used to.

Finished watching Dark Than Black 2.  Show was pretty good!  Much better than I expected going in.  Overall it was a very well made, well directed, well animated production that was on par with the original dtb.  It really should have been longer than 12eps.  I felt like there was more plot going on than dtb1 which was twice the length.  Otoh, it meant there wasn't much, if any, filler and the pacing was always great.

The only thing is the ending is wtfffffff.  MCD get in here and explain what the hell happened in the epilogue!

there was no ending.

I felt like there was more plot going on than dtb1 which was twice the length.

dtb1 = episodic + lots of episodes dedicated for characters like yin or huang, it was slower which was much better since i like watching hei and his two persona. the plot was between these episodes till they reached episode 20 or so where they had to wrap it up (with a silly ending too.)

dtb2 is just the main plot, i like it but yeah, needed to be longer (i guess the ovas will cover some of that) + a real ending or season 3 and this time hei as the main character.

still though, i am actually surprised you liked it, guess i can't troll you now.

I mostly just like watching the evolution of the mobile suits in UC.  I dug the F91 look with the giant heatsinks, beam shield, and weapons that were powerful enough to break through those barriers.  I liked how Rafflesia looked a lot like Nightingale.

Something that annoys me about non-UC series is how they don't even bother with any of the tech nonsense.  While some of it was added later, it was still cool to see prototype 360 monitors in Alex eventually become the standard in Zeta.  In things like 00 or wing they still have a few monitors around in a mostly blocky cockpit while on the outside there is beam spam  and other crazy attacks.  They also somewhat try to explain how the mobile suits are controlled, but it is less consistent about that.  CCA has the whole 360 grip stick thing going on while F91 just has the older style of two flight sticks.

I'm back home in Seattle now, but I got up early this morning (ie. about 26 hours ago) and took the trains out to Kami Igusa, the little Tokyo suburb where Gundam was born. The station even plays a muzak version of "Tobe Gundam" as the jingle when a train arrives.
