I've had Blood+ playing in the background for the past few days while I study and shit. Figured it's on netflix streaming, may as well have something mindless going.  What the hell, there's no action in this show...promises of school girl vampires chopping up other vampires...but it's all lame anime narrative.
I still liked it a lot for some reason. Really liked the intro and ending songs too. Plus it ahd one of the most fucked up deaths in an anime. :lol

you mean between that boy and the enemy girl where she

spoiler (click to show/hide)
she rapes him to become pregnant and her fluids/blood crystalize him and essentially kill him(If i recall correctly).

if that's the one then yes it was fucked up  :lol

That's almost about as distinguished mentally-challenged as the ending in Ninja Scroll Resurrection, where Jubei takes on the reincarnated version of Jesus, and at the end when Japanese Jesus is dying from mortal wounds inside a burning shrine, some guy has a chick have sex with him so he can impregnate her and bear his child.

Speaking of uguu, I listened to the Bakemonogatari drama cd and it just exemplifies why it is one of the best series in the last few years.  The drama cd is called "hundred stories" like the fable book, but instead it's 100 short dialogue skits in 60 mins.  It's awesome!  The writing just flows so well and every skit is filled with at least 1 or more good jokes.  Listening to it I realized that Bakemonogatari is basically Azumanga Daioh but grown-up.  It's a slice of life comedy series built around rolling dialogue and non-stop punchlines with a bunch of "stereotype" goofy girls and the straight man that they play off of.

So goood.  Can't wait for that last ep to get released.

Yeah, I'm finishing up Season 1 & DTB2 this week and I'm pretty surprised how enjoyable K-On! is.  Nothing about the show jumps out as amazing, but it's just a very enjoyable non-offensive slice of life  soft comedy with some tact (aka, not creepy or horribly embarrassing w/fanservice [aka, creepy]) & great animation that's good when you want to unwind and watch something relaxing.  I thought I would have gotten bored and dropped it by a few eps in, but I'll probably finish it and give S2 a shot.

Heroman

The plot's nothing special: put-upon kid gets giant robot through wild coincidence and then fights evil invaders. But there's enough vibrant energy here that it doesn't matter too much. Plus, it's even got a Stan Lee cameo!

Yamada (no first name yet, the show informs us) has but one goal for her first year of high school. To get laid! …By 100 different boys! Such a valiant pursuit, to ascend the heights of slutdom, but oh wait, there's more layers to her noble and captivating quest! She's only after virgin boys because she's afraid her muffin doesn't look terribly tasty and is positive that only fresh fish would take the bait she has to offer down south. So now her quest is to deflower (would it perhaps be dethorn?) 100 men instead! Her first target: nerdy Kosuda, who she finds unattractive but beggars can't be choosers!

Is this normal? Of course not! The concept is downright insulting to women on the whole, but is it at least funny? No, it's rancid and obnoxious for a myriad of reasons. First of all, the main character is, what a surprise, despicable. If she were consistently wild and licentious, that still might be funny, but no, she's inexperienced so she flitters between incompatible extremes. One moment, she locks an unsuspecting “cherry boy” in a closet to flash him and get him aroused so she can get a good rape in to kick off the year, the next she'll be shoving him over and fleeing in terror at the sight of a shielded stiffy. (That's the crowning gag of the episode, by the way.)

Second, we're graced with running commentary by an “erogami,” the personification of Yamada's libido, who resembles and functions like Babbitt from Kodocha except a thousand times more annoying. Even when that abomination isn't prattling away, every other character from the series pops in at random times to share such classic quips as “She's so stupid!” and “Just talk normally, Yamada!” It goes without saying that Kosuda has no traits whatsoever to distinguish him from the usual spineless male lead in these things. That might have at least improved the concept behind this trainwreck a smidgen…okay, half a smidgen.

Was this supposed to be funny even in theory? The “joke” that she was about to sex Kosuda up but forgot that kissing comes first is played off as cute, but reversing the genders on this entire premise would not be acceptable, much less funny, and this cringe-worthy “comedy” is hardly acceptable either.

Quote
Here's the premise of B Gata H Kei: Yamada is an abnormally pretty, sex-obsessed 15-year old about to enter High School. Her goal? Bang 100 dudes! But fate has other plans in store for the perverted Yamada, who's too embarrassed to sleep with an experienced guy, convinced she won't be any good in the sack. So she meets Kosuda, a virgin, and is determined to have him be her first, even if he's too timid to return her aggressive advances.

Yep. That's what this show is about.

B Gata H Kei is yet another in a long line of crappy anime sex comedies that seem to rely completely on lame “envelope-pushing” boner jokes and increasingly underage girls who have oh-so-wacky issues with sex. Last season we had Chu-Bra!!, which pretended to be about female puberty but was really just an excuse for otaku to leer at a high school girl who wouldn't shut up about her panties; B Gata H Kei at the very least tosses out the pretense (so there probably won't be any “no guys it's really a show about [insert well-meaning but obviously bullsh*t topic here] and it isn't just creepy otaku bait!!” arguments) and is mostly a series of unfunny tiresome gags about how badly Yamada wants to nail Kosuda. Surely there's a segment of fandom out there that will find this gut-bustingly hilarious, but it's about as funny and inspired as those straight-to-DVD “National Lampoon Presents” movies with titles like “Sorority Ass Party 2: Boner School”, except it's an anime so of course everyone's underage, which means not only is it just a bunch of lame sex gags, you're going to feel like a total creep watching it. Fun, right?

In the middle of the episode they (of course) try to tack on some cheap “tender” moments that suggest the budding relationship between Yamada and Kusoda is really an innocent one between two kids who are just so gosh-darned confused about sex and might really have feelings for eachother outside of Yamada's burning desire to jump Kusoda's bones as her first conquest toward her goal of boning a hundred other guys (every time she brings up that plot device my stomach churned a little). It doesn't work, and they're not fooling anyone, especially when the climactic joke is that just before their first kiss Kusoda gets an erection and Yamada – even though she's a sex-crazed nymph – just can't handle even seeing it! Oh, the hilarity!

Sometimes these sex comedies have weirdly high production budgets and so the animation winds up being pretty good, but that isn't the case here; this was produced on the cheap, so the animation is mediocre at best. The character designs are all really generic and uninspired too, so it's not particularly fun to look at either. This is lame, lazy junk aimed at some phantom audience out there that I'm not part of. Skip it if you value your personal dignity.

Heroman ep1 was alright, hopefully gets better with next ep.

I miss the days of great ep1s. I think if your ep1 is amazing off the bat, the likelyhood of your show being amazing shoots up really high.  Can't think of the last A++ ep1 of a show.  Gurren Lagann?  So long ago.  Maybe Eden of East.

finished my entire lead-up to rewatching Unicorn on blu-ray  (MSG movies, Zeta, and Char's Counterattack)

watching them one after another in the span of a few weeks/months, it seems like having a father figure means you're a little bitch.

Katz: adopted by Hatayo. Total bitch throughout Zeta.
Hathaway: son of Bright "man slap" Noa. Total bitch in Char's Counterattack.
Amuro: His dad went crazy.  Was a hero in 0079, second half of Zeta, and CCA.
Char: His dad was killed.  Took apart Zabi's Zeon from the inside, beheaded a woman with a rocket launcher, was a badass in Zeta, CCA, etc.
Kamille: His dad was cuntrag and was killed early on.  Stole the Gundam Mark II like it was nothing, designed Zeta Gundam, was a pimp and hero throughout Zeta.

So far Banagher in Unicorn seems to be following this trend

Heroman ep1 was alright, hopefully gets better with next ep.

I thought Heroman episode 1 was really dull

I think there have been a lot of first episodes that at least get you hooked on the series.  That said, I haven't really watched a new anime in some time.  I know I was into things like Jyu Oh Sei and Nijuu blah blah that Twenty Faces anime.

ok, the last new anime I watched was One Outs and that had a good first episode

Apparently I'm supposed to hate Angel Beats because like Code Geass it's made to sell and not made to be a creative quality production.

...eh, I thought ep1 was entertaining.  The english speaking kid is straight out of a fighting game.  It's like he is channeling Jacky's HANDCUFF LIGHTNING every time.  The worldview is kinda interesting and the main guy is the main guy from bakemonogatari and I like him a lot.  Will watch ep2.

Not really a good sign since the first episode is usually where most studios put a bit more money than in later episodes.

Despite a premise that made it seem destined for utter failure, Kaichou wa Maid-sama is actually an earnest shoujo romance. It's got moments of humor, a strong female lead, and a male lead that's actually a decent guy. On the flip side, it's annoyingly generic in its plotting and seems like a ripoff of Kare Kano but without the visual uniqueness.

Also for sports anime fans: Giant Killing. It's about a failing soccer club that's desperate to get their team back on track and win some games. I only watched a little bit of it, but it looks better than most of the other stuff this season. I'm not really big on sports anime so I'm not sure I'll watch very much of it, but it does have an awesome OP.

A serious, high quality anime? Set in the 1930's? With LOTS OF ACTIONS?! While hard to believe, this is exactly what Senkou no Night Raid delivers, a series about a group of Japanese agents in China during the 1930's. It's hard to say at this point exactly how far the series is going to go into the historical situation, and what follows, but so far it seems like background information at best. Depending on your viewpoint, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Nevertheless, judged on its own merits, the show looks to be this season's big winner. In a way, it's sort of like a low-tech Stand Alone Complex.

Angel Beats is another good one. The first episode starts slow and feels a bit jumbled in trying to find the proper tone, but the second half of the episode proves to be much stronger and brings with it the promise of a decent anime series.

I still have a big problem with Japan making a show about their occupation of China, let alone Nanking. Maybe I'll check it out.

Got back from Kamakura/Enoshima five minutes before Heroman started on TV Tokyo, so I watched. Pretty simplistic show with some beautiful animation. I was actually surprised at how much of the dialogue I understood.

Yeah, I can see how some people would have a problem with that.

I think it's good they're approaching it, though how they represent the facts will determine whether it's legitimate art that raises awareness of an awful event or a shameful misconstruing of historic facts to paint them as victims.

Ghost in the Shell: SAC was really great. Can't believe I took so long to watch it. I wanna watch the 2nd Gig, but netflix only has the summary movie for instant watch. I really don't wanna have to rent the dvds one by one, so I just might download it.

Gundam dubs are better than the Japanese voiced versions.

No, dubs suck.  Original intended language >>>>>>>>>>>>> some crappy voice over.  And that goes for more than just dumb ol' animu.

1.  You are the homo.

2. distantmantra told me that Bandai switched the studio that does their dubbing, so that means that all the voices would be changed from the previous Gundam series ANYWAY.

3.  Dubs suck.

Dubs don't always suck (rare I know).

GitS dub was good
DBZ japanese voices got annoying quick
Fooly Cooly dub is superior
I don't remember exactly, but I think the Cowboy Bebop dub was also superior

I'm guessing in most of those cases, you just heard the dub voices first and got used to them, so they sounded "right" to you.
