ffs. I don't mind a show being popcorn and just having story bits to justify shit blowing up, but when those bits take up the majority of the timeshare it becomes a waste of time.

I have a lot of hang-ups when it comes to anime and there are enough niggling little issues in addition to the overblown focus on story so it's just not enjoyable. maybe if someone cuts together all the fights for a Linkin Park AMV...

Yeah, that's pretty much what I remember. I think the only time I ever remember there being just a lot of talking is the Major's speech from that one episode.

I guess y'all are more tolerant than me. Every dialog was at the very least twice as long as needed and the constant barrage of english and german phrases being destroyed was way over the line for me.

Like, in the fifth episode the major is like "destroy london! destroy everything! muhahaha~" And then his soldiers are like; everything? big ben? YES! Trafalgar square? YES! THE IMPERIAL MUSEUM?! FUCKING YES! HE SAID EVERYTHING! they keep going on forever like the writers are listing shit out of a london sight-seeing guide! how do you not fantasize about shooting yourself while watching that?

Watched five eps of Hellsing OVA now and I'm out. Way too much straight up disturbingly bad exposition. I can't fathom that they wrote, recorded and animated all that without realizing how terrible it is. The action is good, and the music, while not up to the previous show, is good, but I can't be assed to sit through this when there is ten times as much time devoted to talking heads blathering nonsensical nonsense in broken-ass European languages (they say prosit as a toast for fucks sake) compared to the few smatterings of action!

MOTHER. FUCKING. RAGE. QUIT.

You rage quite right before the most awesome battle in the series.

Nah, the fight on the tanker is like the best ep of Hellsing ever and that's ep4.  So if that didn't do it for him, I don't think the show is for Brobzoid.

I've always felt Hellsing is terrible and awesome at the same time.  If I try to take it seriously and judge it on its merits, it's total trash.  But if I judge it as popcorn pulp and just enjoy the zaniness and badass shit I love it.  I feel exactly the same way about Gantz.

Finished FMA manga.  Last chapter was a satisfying disney movie finish.  For a manga that in the first 70% took a lot of risks, I think the last 30% was as by the books family storytelling as you can get and I think that's a lot of the reason I found it a disappointing story overall.

Is the last chapter out yet? it sounds like people just read spoilers for it

also, K-on Season 2 kinda sucks compared to the first one.  The characters take the their shtick to an unbearable level.  Yui in S1 was aloof and now she's distinguished mentally-challenged.

Yeah S2 sucks so far.  I blame it on the pacing.
S1 was like 6eps per school year so things actually moved story-wise.  S2 is 24eps for 1 school year so nothing happens and they just sit around and be silly with almost no music.  I think S2 should have been a 6ep OAV or been 3rd year + college years.

And FMA raw is out, but it hasn't been scanlated yet.  Maybe by tomorrow.

I have had Tatami Galaxy's hulu page on the chrome favorite bar for a while.  It's the next series I watch when I catch up with K-on and I'm only on episode 3 of season 2 for that.

It's also kind of a shame S2 sticks to the 3rd year in HS because just the idea of a school show starting as freshmen and going BEYOND high school and dealing with college and real life would be pretty refreshing.  Seeing the characters actually grow up and the band get bigger.  Could've been a cool show beyond the music and jokes and moe.  Like Beck without the gangsters and guns and contrived drama subplots.

yeah, if this is really 24 episodes of just the third year, I don't see how they'll keep it from feeling stale.  I don't know if they really need to build on the band.  The episode a the live house pretty much said all that need to be said with Sawa and the woman who owns the live house.  One of the strengths of the show is that it is so happy and blissfully ignorant of any real consequences to life outside of this club.  It's mostly that I don't think the show would go beyond all the fluff.

And I think Genshiken is the best slice of life series when it comes to showing how things change over time.  I'm hoping there is a Season 3 eventually because there is more of the manga left to be animated.

Have they said that all of k-on season 2 is just their third year?

The Cinema Today website reports that MADHOUSE is the acclaimed anime studio (Death Note, Paprika, Vampire Hunter D, Summer Wars) that is producing the previously announced Supernatural the Animation project for Warner Brothers. According to the website, this is the world's first animated project from a Japanese anime studio that is based on a popular overseas drama series. Shigeyuki Miya (Lupin III: Green vs Red, Aoi Bungaku Series, Buzzer Beater) and Atsuko Ishizuka (Aoi Bungaku Series) are co-directing the project.

Warner Home Video will release Supernatural the Animation on Blu-ray and DVD in Japan on January 12, 2011. The original live-action series follows the Winchester brothers Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) as they hunt creatures and other supernatural phenomena across the American landscape. The series premiered on The WB network in the United States in 2005, and it will enter its sixth season on The WB's replacement network, The CW, this fall.

Update: The animeanime.jp website reports that the anime will be a 22-episode season that will cover the storyline of the live-action version's first two seasons. The first volume will ship on January 12 with the first two episodes. On February 2, the "Box 1" set will ship with episodes 3 to 12. On April 6, the "Box 2" set will ship with episodes 13 to 22. (There will be a different release schedule for the rental version of the project.)

The anime project will not only remake the best episodes from the live-action version, but also depict original episodes not seen in the live-action version. Those original episodes will include prologues of the Winchester brothers' childhood, anime-only enemies, and episodes featuring secondary characters from the live-action version.

Supernatural creator Eric Kripke is credited as the anime project's creator, and MADHOUSE co-founder Masao Maruyama is serving as executive producer. Naoya Takayama (Night Head, Liar Game) is supervising the series' scripts, and Takahiro Yoshimatsu (Trigun) is designing the characters.

hope it happens.  If manga authors got money for each click on a chapter of theirs (due to ads), then they'd probably make some decent money when before they were getting nothing from the scanlations, and fans get their chapters with possibly better quality scans and better quality translations still for free.

So I'm still slowly going through Black Lagoon and I got to the 2nd barrage and I wasn't feeling the loli arc.  I was afraid the entire 2nd season would be about the mobsters and the loli kids and not the main lagoon crew who are awesome (especially rock).  The arc built up slowly and then OH SHIT ended just like that.  Man, that end was GREAT.  Fucking hardcore.  Dudebro shooters ain't got nothing on that.  The sniper let em bleed part was pretty badass too.  Love that the show actually has some balls.

Otaku no Musume-san  is very good. I'm having trouble finding a good pic to use to sell you on it.

"Kanau Yukimura is nine years old and she's meeting her father for the first time. However, he turns out to be an otaku! The two of them start living together in the same apartment, next to a lot of interesting neighbors. Unsurprisingly, things don't always go smoothly for these two..."

Angel Beats has become one of my favorite shows from the past year, thanks in part to what looks to be a really strong dramatic finish [just watched 10-12 today]. Back in the first few episodes I compared it to Haibane Renmei with guns and I'd say that comparison has held true.

It's over?  Angel Beats, Durarara, and Five Leaves are on my "watch after they finish" list.

Right now I'm pretty behind in what I'm watching.
FMA B, I'm like 6 eps behind.  This part is so filler besides the greed/wrath fighting
Black Lagoon, I think I have like <10 eps left in S2
K-On!!, I'm a few eps behind.  Think I'm going to drop it if the story doesn't move in the next few eps.  S2 is boring :\
Tatami Galaxy, just need to see the most recent ep.  I hear it's good!
