Gantz didn't look bad at all for a live-action Japanese film.

Oh, the Evangelion 2.22 HK Blu-ray has a separate English subtitle track. If you'd rather not wait a year or so for Funimation to get around to releasing it, Play Asia and Yes Asia have it for sale.

I want to see some reviews before I put down $50 on importing it.

I managed to get it for only $30. Early reviews from AOD say the video is great and the subtitles are better than Funimation's 1.11 translation.

That sounds good.  Might pick it up then.

I was mainly worried the subs would be HK subs or something.

I actually wonder why Hollywood never remade Gantz.  It's like the perfect summer action movie setup.  Throw Will Smith in as the lead and you have a summer blockbuster.

167 was filled with hilarious moments. The first new animu of the season came on yesteday/today, it has a long name so lets just call it Ookami san. I liked it, Ryouko looks like Taiga from Toradora and the narrator is Kuroko's voice actor. Plus Ryouko is kinda tsundere if you're into that.

the entire episode is two power guys fighting and just a bunch of crazy animation showing this.  At one point that character is literally drifting around corners on his feet.

it's kinda funny that they spent a lot of time in previous episodes and chapters trying to establish his powers and limits, then this episode disregards all that in favor of showing a crazy move.

So... Megumi Nakajima (Ranka Lee) and May'n (Sheryl Nome) are going to be at AX 2010 with a special surprise guest (Yoko Kanno? Maaya Sakamoto?)... Funimation has mentioned something about an "earth shattering announcement"...

Is hell freezing over and are pigs flying? Is Macross Frontier getting licensed?

Now that FMA brotherhood is about to end, I decided to watch the 1st episode and like I thought, it's a whole lot better than the old FMA.

only bad thing is the chibi jokes but the old show had its share of that as well.

Kara no Kyokai movie #5 was like the most EPIC 2 HOUR film I've seen in a long time.
Not that I think it's good.  At this point I think the writing/story is ^^; and the directing is done in a way to constantly make it as confusing as possible for no reason.  But screw objectively thinking about it.  That was just some wowowowo shit.

I wish anime movie follow ups to franchises like Eden of East, or Kenshin/One Piece/Naruto, or Ghost in the Shell, etcetc had the ambition to do a movie as major and crazy over the top epic like this.  I was wondering if these guys who'd been doing 50 min movies could pull of a full 120 minute film for #5, but goddamn, that was better than 90% of anime films.  It was like Valkyrie Profile 2&3 in 120 mins coming from VP1.

Also I don't see why they blew their load with movie #5 in a 7 movie series.  I could just walk away from this series now and be 100% satisfied.  Whatever is in movie 6/7 I don't really care.  The plot is over.  I don't see how they can top that, especially if the last movie is a sequel to the prequel.

And man, that part where

most folks on animu boards suggest going straight to movie 5 and skipping the rest.

maybe i should do that because i watched the first two and was bored to tears, it's why i usually don't watch animu movies, long artsy fartsy derp.

haha, yeah I mean the plot is lolz anyhow so you probably could do that.

movie 1 is absolutely terrible.  Would not recommend to anyone in their right mind.  Maybe it's decent after you've seen the rest but it's like Berserk ep1 except even worse.
movie 2 is the only one I thought had a good story, but then it's all mysterious and doesn't explain anything (I guess movie 7 will)
movie 3 is ok episodic
movie 4 is kinda nice because it explains movie 2 somewhat and you want to know what happened, but it still purposely avoids answering too much
movie 5 is crazy

What the fuck is kara no kyokai

It's like Persona 3/4 if they were anime.

It's Typemoon (Tsukihime & Fate Stay/Night)
It's the precursor to Tsukhime.  12 years ago the artist/writer who was gonna form Typemoon wrote this short 3 volume story called Kara no Kyoukai
Then he made Typemoon and remade Kara no Kyoukai into a porn visual novel that was Tsukihime.  The characters and story was different, but it had a lot of similar stuff (main character can see lines of death and cut them to kill anything)
Tsukihime was huge and then he made Fate which was huge.  Both got animes.
Then they remade Kara no Kyoukai into 7 series of theatrical movies.

I haven't seen Fate, but I did see Tsukihime anime which was...ehhh and the Kara no Kyoukai movies are definitely a lot better.

Yeah it's one story but it's not in chronological order.  I'd say it's worth watching 2-5 at least from what I've seen.  DO NOT WATCH EP1 THOUGH.

I think it goes
Movie 2 -> 7 -> 4 -> 3 -> 6 -> 1 -> 5

There is zero reason it's not in chronological order other than they want to hook the viewer by having almost nothing make sense until you get to the later eps.  Really lame!

The series is horror/mystery/action.  It's very gory and the animation is above tv level most of the time and sometimes, like movie 5, it's actually good movie quality.  If you don't like gory horror, do not watch.

I checked out that Naruto ep.  Lots of really cool animation but the ep sucked and reminded me of why I don't watch jump anime adaptations.  The pacing soooooo slow.  It's like with this ep you have all this super stylized great animation but there's no energy to it because the pacing is like you are watching it in slow motion.  This ep will make a lot of great looking animated gifs though.

Yes, the Super Sentai variety in particular being a fetish for people who like to dress up in full-body "ranger suits" and battle rubber-suit monsters.

It's Japanese for "military unit" or "squadron," IIRC.
