the part where Nishi breaks his leg climbing up the whale and then they flashback to him as a kid because he didn't drink enough milk, giving us the audience a good reasoning for why he broke his leg, and then showing his mother sneaking some milk into his food so he can be healthy, only for his broken leg to mysteriously be healed is one of my favorite scenes ever on film. Such an amazing scene.

What I dislike:
1. High school bullshit
2. RANKA... my God, can't we just kill her off and let Sheryl be the pop star focus for this iteration of Macross?

What I like:
1. Badass Itano-circus dog-fighting
2. The use of CGI for the mecha is a lot better than I expected
3. Over the top cheesy Yoko Kanno pop songs
4. References to SDF Macross and Macross Zero (the episode ten homage to Macross Zero was great)
5. Space Opera goodness

Good out weighs the bad, I'll keep on watching.

omg I fucking hate myself now, I hate the show, I hate everyone who recommended it, I hate Japan, and Japanese kids who're inspired by this type shows. Someone please tell me it's a parody that pokes fun of all super robot animes? I mean they can't be serious.

Agreed.  First half was a lot better than what followed.

First 3 episodes are top tier stuff.  Then it back and forth for a few episodes and kinda drops after episode 8 (for obvious reasons), but it picks up towards the end*.  The peak was when it was about Kamina being fucking awesome.

*I should clarify that when I say "towards the end", I meant towards the end of the first half of the series.

Basically the show gradually loses steam after Nia is introduced.  Something awesome + Loli moe filth = FUUUUCK YOOOOUU

So two days ago I finished The Vision of Escaflowne. Really really liked it. It had good animation,music,designs,voice acting(I was listening to both English and JP dubs, both are nice. JP Van > EN Van. EN Hitomi > JP Hitomi) It's also one the rare shows that has a better ending than opening. Good show.

Panty and Stocking was kind of dumb like the early comics suggested.  Good animation, but a waste of all the talent involved.  It's not bad, but it's just one of those things where in Japan what they see as "cool" and "pushing the line" just comes across as lame in America.  It's not FLCL or Gurren Lagann for sure.  But I guess it'll be entertaining enough for its run.  The 2nd ep was much better than the 1st animation-wise.

I guess Star Driver is the only hope for this season.  Hope it's good and not lame!

DL and Panty are pure popcorn entertainment.  Not awful, but after the 20 mins are up you never think or care about them again.  They have nothing underneath the flash.

In the anime, it's like all the big characters from the manga are on the Raiders or the Hornets.  You have a mix of a super stacked baseball game with flashes of Shimizu giving birth.

In the manga, it is Goro retired in Japan after he injured himself late in his career.  His daughter thinks he is a good for nothing because he lounges around and has a beard.  It ends with him getting back into playing Baseball like his dad did at the beginning of the manga so his kids could see him play.  Or something along those lines.

Panty And Stocking was fucking great!  I didn't think I'd like it at all, but it was a hilarious take on American-style cartoons.  Good shit...best I've seen since Detroit Metal City.  The first episode was definitely better than the second though.  Love the soundtrack too.

it would have explained all that happened in the credits.  And Jeff Keene defected to play for the Raiders.  The manga isn't translated or hard to find raw, so I don't know if Toshi came and Keene left, or Keene left and Goro got Toshi signed.
