Paging Bebpo:

Is there like a program that will automatically hardsub a vid for you if you have the sub file? I doubt it, but it doesn't hurt to ask. :(

You mean combine the avi + sub file into a single file?

I think that's essentially what .mkvs are but I dunno what program to use.  You might have to re-encode the file and that takes a while (or at least used to a few years ago).

IIRC

Kinda but you normally have to recode the video. Just get a decent video converter and there should be an option to attach a sub file while converting. (I used WinAvi for a while)

the MkV can have multiple sources so its possible for a vid to have 2 subs (eg for different languages) or even 2 different voice tracks (eg Eng Dub and Japanese)

Mkv is the one video file type that the 360 refuses to recognize. :-\

Just use a video converter and put it in a format that the 360 could read like AVIs for example.

Have you tried using PS3 Media Server?  You can use that to stream just about anything to your PS3 or 360.

Sick mech battles, nice character designs, never ending consequences of war talk, and good music are all I need. Unicorn has restored my faith in anime. I think I'm finally gonna start watching Zeta again.

Gundam Unicorn :bow2

awestruck by the battles in episode 2

Questionable.  Audry's hair is atrocious and Setsuna F. Seiei is one sexy scarfed dude.

haha I like Audry's hair (and a lot of the hair).  It's feels so old anime, especially that one chick with puffy long har.

and sinanju is already up there as one of my favorite mechs.  It's a busier Sazabi, which makes it not as good as the original Sazabi for me, but it shares a lot of the same qualities.  Sazabi is top three or five mobile suits in any Gundam up there with Alex.  Unicorn is great too, just a bit basic for now.

real talk:  I like Unicorn because it's a more plot-focused, slightly smarter UC looking gundam with some good budget for the battles.  But honestly, I'm disappointed that it's closer to SEED and OO than real UC gundam if you look past the character/mecha designs.  Ep1 felt pretty UC and I was stoked about that, but in Ep2 we were back to post-Gundam Wing gundam where the main protagonist/antagonist mechs are god-tier and every one else is absolutely useless and just death fodder.  Back in the day of UC, ships and soldiers MATTERED.  None of this "oh no it's the red comet he can take out an entire fleet solo. What are we going to do?!?".  The first battle in ep1 felt like every soldier mattered when a bunch of grunts almost took down the green MA.  That was an awesome fight and very reminiscent of the good old days of gundam.  But all the action in ep2 was totally ridiculous overpowered bs straight out of SEED.  But hey it looked nice.

Maybe things will get back on track in ep3+, but I just don't think realistic gritty UC gundam can exist anymore.  It's become too much of a toy seller and nothing makes the units stand out better than being god tier and destroying everything effortlessly.

Not that I completely disagree or anything.

I wasn't too big on this season early on, but after five weeks there's some pretty good shows out there right now:

Ika Musume
Soredemo Machi
Panty and Stocking
Ore no Imouto

Kuragehim and Star Driver are supposed to be pretty good too, although I haven't watched them yet.

Panty And Stocking is the best by far.  In a league of its own, really.  I like Soredemo Machi a lot as well.  Haven't bothered with Ore No Imouto past the second episode.  Didn't watch Ika Musume but did scan the first ep and found the ending hilarious.

There are some others I have downloaded but haven't gotten to yet.  This season really seems to have something for everyone.  Best one in a long time, I think.

The first three episodes were pretty funny, like Sgt. Frog but more mellow. However, episode 4, especially the final third, was hilarious. That episode really pushed it up towards the top of this season for me.

Did you just watch the first season of Full Metal Panic? Because, if so, make sure you watch Full Metal Panic Fumoffu, it's absolutely hilarious.

Also, The Wallflower has a somewhat similar setup as Ouran and a lot of the same kind of humor.

it's like if they picked osaka from azumanga daioh, adjusted it a bit and then made a whole anime about it

Fractale looks pretty good from what I've seen of it, will definitely watch that.

Maybe Gosick, since Bones always does good work. Not really sold on the premise, but if they trend more towards gothic instead of gothic lolita, it could be good.

That Lovecraft one just sounds weird though, but I'll probably have to check it out anyway.

Will definitely check out Beelzebub, since I read some of the manga and it was really funny.

That's probably about it, unless that Wolverine anime turns out to be better than Iron Man series.

Fractal...maybe because A-1 can be good
With Beezlebub, the way I handle manga -> anime adapts is unless it's being done by a studio or director I really like who I think will bring something to the table beyond the original, I'll pass on the anime and just read the manga someday.

Otherwise will just wait and see what gets good word of mouth.  Was not expecting much from this fall season but it's surprisingly enjoyable and I'm following more shows at once than I have been since like 2004.

Plenty of good anime!

Panty show - not for everyone (I think its stupid) but even if you dislike it, it's worth 20 mins of your life each week just to appreciate the art/animation.
Star Driver - pacing is episodic monster of the week, but awesome action/mecha and eventually like every super robot of the week show it'll get really good before it ends.  Plus it'll be in SRW one day so it's good to watch.
Sore demo machi wa matteru - best comedy.  Nonstop hilarious after the first 2eps which are less funny because they setup the plotlines.
Imouto show - entertaining.  It's not artistic, it's not offensive, not bad, but every aspect is competent so it's enjoyable in the same way Densha Otoko was enjoyable because it focuses on real world super nerd culture.
Jellyfish Princess - ok.  I don't like the art designs much (too shoujo), but it's entertaining and not dumb or offensive.
Arakawa under the Bridge season 2 - I'm still watching S1 but the show is great, so unless it gets bad S2 should be good as well!
Super Robot Wars OG2 - no this isn't actually good anime, I'm just listing it because I like SRW!

Previous 2010 shows you could always watch if you haven't seen:
-Tatami Galaxy - best show this year
-Angel Beats - it comes off as generic at first, but it's actually pretty neat
-House of Five Leaves - can't vouch for but I heard it's good
-Katanagatari - can't vouch for but the source material at least is by a great writer and the art looks kind of like Okami meets Gainax.

mirai nikki manga is quite weird
spoiler (click to show/hide)
basicaly a guy has to fight 12 other guys to decide who become god and each guy has a special power where they can predict certain bits of future so it's kinda like a battle manga, the twist is that the main character is a total wuss and instead one of the other 12 is a crazy murder happy girl who's in love with him so basicaly she does all the dirty work while he's scared shitless that she has to work with a psycho
