C is pretty good, I did not take well to the actions of the girl, Hanabi though. But it seems she's probably a bit character anyway, so no point in musing over her.

In other news Osamu Dezaki has passed away at age 67 due to lung cancer today.

Definitely one of my favorite anime directors... Ashita no Joe, Oniisama e, and even Ultraviolet Code 044, which I suffered just to see him work. And not to mention AIR: The Movie, my favorite Key work to date... he will be missed. Guess there goes my hopes for an awesome Planetarian/Little Busters/Rewrite movie.  :'(

I was never able to find a torrent for Ashita no Joe, and I think someone told me that it hadn't even been fansubbed. I'd love to watch it, is it out there?

Dai-guard's OP song is SO GOOD.  I dug through my old dvd collection in storage and found vol.1...which is probably all I ever saw!  I should watch this at some point.  Why don't they make OP songs like this anymore :(

Blue Exorcist

Kind of interesting and it shows a few quick flashes of brilliance, but the end of the first episode tries to jam in way to much exposition into too little time and seems to imply that a portion of the show will settle into a monster-of-the-week format. Maybe it won't, and surprise me, so I'll probably stick with it for another episode or two to see how things go.

I saw that but I don't know how much I trust this company I've never heard of.

I'd really like to own K-on! on fancy 1080p blu-ray and hide it in the closet when guests are over, but the $34 amazon wants for 4eps is lolz.  I've grown too accustomed to Funimation pricing and can't go back to old anime pricing ever again.  Imo, for a 13ep show on blu-ray, $50 is about right and then I'll pick it up when it's 40% off at $30.

Deep Discount is super legit and incredibly cheap. Free shipping, too.

They're well-known for their twice-yearly sales where everything gets discounted another 20%. I got the Freedom BD boxset from them for like $60. When I bought tons of anime back in college and graduate school, DD was the only place I would use.

ok, well I guess I'll get k-on! #1; hope they discount the other 2 volumes for S1 or else it'll still end up really expensive for the first 13ep season.

I find TRS overpriced and overhyped. Yeah, they're anime-centric and you get stuff early, but I don't see a reason to pay for a membership so you pay less for stuff.

And yes, volumes two and three will be the same price.

Well, there was no membership fee back when I bought from TRS.  But I haven't bought anime anywhere besides amazon in like 8 years.

Also I just read that k-on S1 is going to be 4 volumes for the 13eps, which means the rest of the volumes will be 3eps.  Bandai US pricing is stupid  :maf

Finished Madoka...I liked the show but it really peaked at ep9/10 and the last two eps were what happens with 90% of good anime shows: the shows write themselves into a corner, pull deus ex machina shit and give a jargon filled la la la magical colors and hey look show is over.

The ending twist could have been A LOT worse as a lot of shows total trainwreck in the end, but I was hoping it would have been a lot better based on ep9/10's quality.  Good show overall, but the ending keeps it from being a really amazing show overall.  Wandering Son was definitely the best pick of that season set and I think I liked Level E a bit more overall too.

Madoka ending:

spoiler (click to show/hide)
It ended pretty much the way it needed to end. I mean, they could have went the total grim-dark route and ended with the realization that fate can't ever be changed no matter how many times you try and it ends with all the characters being slaughtered. COULD have ended that way. Or maybe have some huge, expensive battle where the girls win and Kyubey is destroyed once and for all, though who would want that? Really, having Madoka finally accept her role and use her massive accumulation of power to totally rewrite the rules of the universe [and thus transforming a twisted, nightmarish magical girl setup back into the magical girl fighting monsters with a helpful mascot pet that the genre is known for] was probably the best way overall to end it.

I can't come up with a better ending to Madoka, but I expected them to be better writers than me because I couldn't come up with the plot in the other eps either!  I went into the ending hoping they would think of a solution that I couldn't and surprise me.  But it was just kind of what was expected and I found that disappointing.

It's still one of the best Shinbo/Shaft shows, for sure.  I think Bakemonogatari is still their best, but this is probably the 2nd best show I've seen out of that combo.
