I seriously am up for a Kenshin re-read. Still the best shounen after One Piece. It was so good that I have made the title character's name my forum name for over 10 years.

Best.

Denpa Onna

It's basically a classic harem set up, complete with a bevy of cute girls for the main character to be loved by. Of course, it's Shaft and Shinbo, so obviously there's going to more going on that that. What really makes this work is that it's just so delightfully weird. All female characters are totally cute [big surprise!], but each one is just a bit...off. Although they fall into established archetypes, they each have an additional aspect of their personality that runs totally counter to the way that harem shows generally do their female characters. Two episodes in, it works. There's also the fact that the male character isn't totally bland and clueless, he has a bit of genre knowledge and has some role in the show other than to simply be a blank slate for the audience. An overall lack of ecchi-ness also helps.

The only thing weak about Denpa Onna is honestly the writing. I keep on watching waiting for Bakemonogatari levels of awesome dialogue, but it never quite reaches there.  Guess Hitoma Iruma is just no NisiOisiN.

The characters are fun though, with the same style of unique personalities that drew me into Bake, so I'll definitely keep on it.

I saw that but I don't know how much I trust this company I've never heard of

Not sure about now, but back in the day Deep Discount was awesome with their 25% off sales. Stocked up on a lot of DVDs back then.  :-[

Though I've heard lately they've been bad with their service (slow shipping) and they've started charging sales tax to places like California, so I'm not sure. Nowadays I don't buy much anymore... and everything I want to buy anime-wise has not been released on Blu-Ray yet.

I went into the ending hoping they would think of a solution that I couldn't and surprise me.  But it was just kind of what was expected and I found that disappointing.

But the thing I appreciated most about the ending was that it wasn't exactly a Deus Ex. Once you took a step back, you realized that this was pretty much how it had to resolve, and it set itself up very well in that regard, without pulling any "oh we suddenly came to this solution that could have been realized 10 episodes ago, but then we wouldn't have a show so we had to delay the character's rationalization process until we hit the 12-episode mark."

I like how in Super Robot Wars whenever Setsuna says something distinguished mentally-challenged like that everyone goes :wtf and Lock-on goes "yeah, we don't really get him either"

Graham was cool until S2 and Tieria was best in drag

He was able to become Gundam in the end.

From shooting your parents to saving the world, you just can't get anymore awesome than that.

And oh, Graham redeemed himself in the movie and Tieria was awesome in Season 2, in drag and all. Him and Setsuna were like the only ones doing shit in S2.

Welcome to the world of awesome ADV storylines.  ;)

Not sure what I'd consider my favorite this season yet... many shows had really strong first eps, but the 2nd episodes became a bit lackluster... maybe AnoHana. Denpa Onna second episode was good, but not as strong as the first, and I can't really judge Steins;Gate because I'm biased from playing the game. And surprisingly I'm having more fun than I was expecting with Tiger and Bunny and A-Channel.

Guess it's going to be one of those seasons where it'll only all be clear by the end.

Level E is great. Some of the arcs aren't as good as others, but the finale reaches some epic heights of trolling and counter-trolling.

They try to play it up as being some kind of Ghost in the Shell-esque movie, but it's really just anime GI Joe. Animation is terrible, action scenes are boring, and nothing about the characters, plot, or dialog are remotely interesting. Aggressively mediocre.

This season of anime has probably been one of the best in years. There's Tiger & Bunny for superhero bromance action, Steins;Gate for weird characters and conspiracy laden technobabble, [C] for over-the-top battles with money and general weirdness, Ano Hi Mita for tear-jerking childhood drama/trauma, Hanasaku Iroha for strict, early-Showa period grandmothers, Deadman Wonderland for Deathrace 2000 in anime form, Denpa Onna for Shaft/Shinbo weirdness, Toriko for the manly eating of endangered animals, and Moshidora for Peter Drucker spinning in his grave like a helicopter.

Moshidora

One part slice of life, one part baseball anime, and one part Peter Drucker management course, all rolled into one. But it's actually pretty good, in large part because it's kind of fun and doesn't take itself too seriously, but also doesn't rely on cheap fanservice [or any fanservice] to try to draw in an audience [ala Softenni].

Denpa Onna Episode 3

The course of the show's plot starts to become a bit more obvious here and I'm getting interesting in seeing how it all works out. I think there's still very much a question going on about Erio's past that's not quite as simple as "she believe's she's an alien to cover her insecurities about her lost memory", although I'm not quite willing to believe that that actually means she IS an alien. Either way, it's a fun show and a unique take on a worn formula.

A-Channel Episode 4

More of the same kind of thing, but I do like the musical interludes that started with the previous episode and have continue here. Provides a nice break from the gag-anime stylings that are present everywhere else. Overall, it's pretty cliche, yeah, but I still enjoy it [though mostly as a guilty pleasure, it's not one of this season's shows that I'd recommend to others].

Moshidora - Episode 4

While the problems of the show are solved a bit too quickly and some of the situations and resolutions are a bit too...unrealistic, it's nevertheless an interesting take on the "down on it's luck baseball team improves through radical thinking". I like watching the show and seeing how Drucker's management tactics are applied to a distinctly different setting than they were originally intended.

High school student council anime based on the writings of Machiavelli? Yes, please, Production IG!

For every stylish wacky Gainax show like Panty, Gurren, Re:Cutey, FLCL, and maaaybe Abenobashi you have boring moe Gainax like Mahoromatic, This Ugly Yet Beautiful World, He is my Master.  Usually if a moe loli is involved it's going to be in the latter.

you know i wanted to pick another anime to watch,so i was wondering if madoka was worth the watch so knowing the basic premise i kinda zipped around the first episode randomly and suddenly came to the conclusion that it was really cool when they were in the weird dark world but that i hated the cutesy looks of the actual characters,i hated it a lot,so i suspected the whole thing was kinda like higurashi, where it's fun fun fun when character are murdering each other and screaming and stuff happens and incredibly boring when they aren't so to confirm my suspicion i set out to read a better plot synopsis, now you probably are thinking "what kind of jerk goes around spoiling himself the whole plot?" and i know that's a pretty fair feeling but sometimes it's the best way to gauge a plot and the whole thing just become more interessing to watch...

... and after doing that,

Madoka is nothing like Gantz.  I don't really see the comparison.

Gantz is really really stupid, but it's really really entertainingly stupid fun action sci-fi.  Madoka is like mystery disturbing magical girl drama.  It's more like Narutaru/Bokurano (but much more tame) and less like Gantz.

It hides it pretty well though, the K-On! one. I'd think it was cool if I saw a guy wearing it.

If you guys feel like reading a finished shounen series, I suggest reading this one here:

It starts as a kind of mystery manga then turns to shounen pretty fast. The shounen stuff is all stereotypical but at least the author did it safe, in other words it isn't shit. (At least from what I read so far.)

tl;dr read it people.

Just finished the Minnagoroshi arc in Higurashi S2.  I went in expecting the worst since everytime there is a good mystery story in anime/manga/j-game it falls apart in the end when its explained, but hey, was pleasantly surprised.  I thought the answers to all the questions were nice and solid.  Reminded me of P4 but much more believable and better written.  Showed me that Ryukishi07 isn't just another hack and is actually a talented writer.

The ending to the arc was nicely done as well.  Very depressing but also emotionally satisfying and good build up for the last visual novel arc where hopefully things end a bit better.  Lots of nakama friendship power.

Definitely makes me look forward to Umineko more, since Higurashi having an actual non-bullshit and instead satisfying explanation makes it more likely Umineko does as well.

Yeah, but Madoka is excellent. Best original anime series I've seen in a loooong time. Still waiting for yesy to sub the final two episodes though... I knew I should have waited until they were finished.

Madoka is nothing like Gantz.  I don't really see the comparison.

the basic premise sounds the same
spoiler (click to show/hide)
group of people get forced in a fight of death or life against magical giant creature so that they can get special currency for an entity that might or might not be evil but at least is sure creepy, this ensues lot of "oh no he died!" and "i can't take this anymore!" drama

in both cases at a certain point a veteran of the fight dies, there is the whole "YOU GET A WISH" business in both cases... i know it's silly to make such comparisons without even having watched the whole thing but after reading a summary that's what i get

Except Gantz is over the top with sex, nudity, violence, language, ect., whereas Madoka is much more subdued and focused on characters rather than action. Plus there's the fact that Madoka has some of the strongest, most unique visuals in modern anime [notwithstanding the Hidamari Sketch-esque cast, but that's a purposeful choice].
