Yeah, I think Chobits was the first time I heard the band.  Chobits and X were some of the few good Clamp anime adaptations.

I remember when I was absolutely smitten by everything .hack.  That particular anime was pretty much garbage; they turned  Balmung into some lame pedo asshole.

I want to rewatch .hack//sign now, and play all the games again.  Though, I never played the second set of PS2 games.  It's weird that I hate mmorpgs but a series about a fake mmorpg is interesting.

I dunno, I've seen everything .Hack at this point and I think all the anime entries are pretty bad but I liked the chibi one the best because at least it was funny.

Sign was great.  You were constantly reminded that The World was a video game and that all the characters were players acting out a role.  It was fairly accurate in the types of players too.  Personally, I liked Crim because his play style wasn't far off from mine.  And you even had the troll character.

.hack twilight is like habbo hotel or club penguin.  it didn't do anything interesting with the 'this is actually a video game' theme, save for the incest and pedo undertones.  bunch of dumb gags that could be replaced with any number of other fantasy shows.

it's also worth noting that Baccano is like the only anime ever with a superior English dub

They need to stop releasing dvd-only anime in the US.  It's ridiculous they are still doing it.  I refuse to buy anything non-BD at this point.

AND when they do release shows in BD, they keep releasing the shows made during the 2000-2007 era in 480SD so they're just upconverts with no reason to be on BD in the first place.  Everything pre-2000 is ignored and recent shows like Gundam OO aren't released on BD.  It's maddening.  Especially since all this stuff both new and old is being released on BD in Japan.

My guess is that if say Funimation has the rights an older show, they'd have to re-license and re-pay for new BD masters to do a BD release, whereas they can probably take the existing SD-material shows they already paid for and licensed and do an upconvert themselves and sell it on BD at no extra cost.  If that's right then they're just being cheap and it's screwing over anyone left in the US anime fanbase.

i like both .hack games for their weird premise and characters but the whole episode thing kills it! each episode is super short on it's own and it still manages to just squander around and drag on it's own even in those few hours it has

I'm holding out on 00 in the chance that Bandai actually releases it here on Blu-ray. First Gundam, however, isn't on Blu-ray in Japan, so it's DVD or nothing.

sorry lyte,i don't know,i found the image on a japanese blog which linked me to gainax japanese site which had the pic

i tought it was hinting at season 2 of P&S or something....

well i finished watching level e,the first 3 episodes were the best,i tought the whole bit with the rangers wasn't as amusing (i guess these kind of parodies are kinda overdone in anime) the rest was good and the ending was a little bit silly

Quote
Now watch Time of Eve [go for the movie version], Bacanno! [if you haven't watched it yet], Kuuchuu Buranko, Shiki [don't let the character designs fool you], and The Tatami Galaxy.

i already watched bacanno! buranko and the tatami galaxy... what this shiki about?

I signed up for AX and I'm starting to think about my cosplay.  I definitely want to do Star Driver, but I've never made a costume before so I dunno where to start.

I think this:

Would be extremely fucking badass if you could make it with feathers and mask and all.  But uhhh, I have no clue where to start.

Obviously Ginga Bishounen is awesome too but complex as well.

I'm thinking maybe to just go as my avatar.  Get a red shirt like that, add a white star patch, white tight pants, red wig...good to go.  But the problems I see are: 1) I'm not tall and skinny like takuto, 2) I look odd clean-shaven so I'm thinking I should go as a character with a beard.

Hopefully Sacred Seven is good in a Scryed x Geass ridiculous lolz way.  Will check out No.6 because BONES involvement even though I don't think they're actually doing the animation?  Might watch a few eps of CLAMP BLOOD just for the laughs.  Dunno what else.

Skipped the previous season but will probably watch this one.  This has some more appealing stuff to the mecha/sentai/bones fan in me.

Is the Appleseed series actually being aired? Last I heard the company making it went completely bust.

Aside from No.6, Usagi Drop, Sacred Seven, and maybe Blood-C [liked Blood: The Last Vampire, wasn't so hot on Blood+], this coming season looks really weak compared the current one.

Caught up on Gosick.

Ep18 was loooooooool.  They did an entire novel (probably 500+ pages) in 20 mins.  It was the most rushed ep I've seen in years.  Entertaining but what a clusterfuck.  Still, ever since the main plot kicked in at ep16, the show's been a lot better.  It still has great art and good characters, but now it's a real mystery adventure plotline.  The plotline seems kind of bad nonsense, but it's entertaining and could be good.  I just hope the show has an ending :(

This x 1000.

Monster was similar, but the resolution wasn't so bad.  I don't think it lived up to the premise and was disappointing, but it was like JUMP THE SHARK BAD like where 20CB goes by the end.  Same with Pluto.  I love his mysteries, but he's yet to write a resolution to them that lives up to the initial premise.

I'm not a big fan of Vampire Hunter. I'd rather have Sword of the Stranger on there or something. Or Time of Eve, if that counts.

I never understood why Totoro is so popular either. It's good and all, but Spirited Away, Howl, and Grave of the Fireflies are much better Ghibli movies imo.

personaly i don't like miyazaki movies, yes i know,i am an horrible sinner for saying this and i guess that coming from me it seems that i'm just doing it because i want to be a contrarian

but to me he just looks like some kind of master hippie animator, everything is about "WAR = BAD! NATURE = AWESOME!" for example i never watched nausica but let's just read the first paragraph of the plot summary

Quote
One thousand years after the "Seven Days of Fire", an apocalyptic war which destroyed civilization and Earth's ecosystem, scattered settlements exist throughout the Toxic jungle (renamed Sea of Decay in subtitles and the manga translation), a forest swarming with giant insects. Everything in the Toxic Jungle is lethal to humans.

of all the miyazaki movie i watched, the only one i liked was spirited away because it didn't give me this feeling, for references i watched porco rosso, totoro, princess mononoke and of course spirited away

bebpo suggested me once to watch laputa describing it as "the plot of every rpg ever!" but i never got around to do it...

to be fair, porco rosso wasn't that bad and the main problem of totoro it's that it's kinda slow and long (seriously i don't care about any family moving out,i want to see the monster! that's what you put in the poster! not a bunch of guys moving out!)

it's princess mononoke that mainly annoys me because of MAN!

on-topic: I watched Metropolis (the anime) the other day. I really liked it. The way they wove all the different stories together was really masterful, and some characters like Rock ended up truly surprising me. Loved the animation and setting too, classic steampunk. I've never watched Astroboy, does it hold up to Metropolis? Prob going to check it out now

Mandark is correct again. Castle of Cagliostro, mayne. People don't mention that one cuz they're faggets.

I never understood why Totoro is so popular either. It's good and all, but Spirited Away, Howl, and Grave of the Fireflies are much better Ghibli movies imo.

Yeah, I agree. To me, it's one of the lesser Miyazaki movies, but I guess it's the nostalgic choice for a lot of people.

Ah yes, the nostalgia criticism.

I didn't see Totoro until I was an adult and it's still my favorite Miyazaki next to Castle of Cagliostro.

Ah yes, the master. Osamu Tezuka. If you want classic Tezuka, I suggest his manga the most.

Astro Boy is still really good.

What? It's not like I'm trying to insult your taste in movies or something. Totoro is an early Miyazaki movie and his first that didn't really have anything to do with action/adventure or war themes, it's much more laid-back and reminiscent of youth, which I think tends to resonate a bit more with people who've followed his career over the years. So it tends to get picked a bit more than some of his other movies.

Higurashi OAVs were boring and the Higurashi Daybreak arc (OAV5) was funny until it got boring about halfway.

Anyhow, glad I'm done with everything Higurashi anime at this point; show was great/oavs were not; time to move on to a different show now.
