Yeah, it is. It's not as totally whacked-out crazy as Revolutionary Girl Utena [at least, not 1/3 of the way through], but it's got the touch of Ikuhara all over it. It's really great visually and uses styles and looks that are virtually gone from today's anime. The story's weird and steeped in things that don't yet make any sense [and may never make any sense] and some of the characters [like Ringo] are absolutely twisted. It's a breath of fresh air, man.

And there's this:

Started reading Fist of the North Star last night.  It's kind of lolllllll with all the body explosions but it's fun.  Going to read the manga before playing more FoTNS musou.  I played the 1st chapter and it seemed a quality recreation of the first chapter of the manga.

You should wach the First of the North Star movie, Bebpo. Everything about it is utterly looooooooooooooool, but in such an awesomely bad way. And make sure you have the English dub on, for maximum lulz.

*YOU* have never read that before?   :o

The game only goes so far and cuts out a lot of baddies, going up to the Raoh stuff...I've never even read past that so I have no idea about the subsequent storylines (another set of characters and a new area of the wastelands) that follow.  There's also a timeskip where a grown-up Batt becomes the main character for a bit (this is not a spoiler).

I don't usually read pre-90s manga or anime unless it's got mecha in it.  I don't watch Votoms because it's loooong and I don't care for the mech designs.

I haven't read Jojo's Bizarre Adventure either.

Real talk, what good manga is there from pre-90s?  I'm not under the impression there is a whole lot.

Slam Dunk
Fist of the North Star
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
3 x 3 Eyes
Vagabond (not sure if this is 80s or 90s)
Five Star Stories (again, not sure if this is 80s/90s)
Dragonball (will never read this; hate the art)

???

Meanwhile there's like 100 decent or good manga in the last 2 decades.

I don't think there's anything wrong with following manga/anime from the era you got into it (for me, mid-90s).  There's always so much new stuff it's hard to find time to check out older things.  I make an exception with Mecha because there's really not all that many mecha anime/manga in history and robots are timeless.

And don't get me started on 80s anime.  Man I hate 80s anime where everything looks like Bubblegum Crisis and Gunsmith Cats eewwww.  60s/70s anime was pimp though.  Everyone looking like Lupin and full of political incorrectness.  I guess I just hate the 80s in Japanese entertainment.

Holy shit WOW, yeah.  And he's also dissing the awesome Kenichi Sonada (who did the art/character design for Bubblegum Crisis and created Gunsmith Cats...which is a 90s manga).  And Akira Toriyama's art too!?  THE FUCK?   :wtf :wtf :wtf :wtf :wtf :wtf :wtf :wtf :wtf :wtf :wtf :wtf :wtf :wtf :wtf

Also y'know, pretty much all of the stuff you read or watched in early 90s...was likely from the 80s.   :P  You're also listing stuff that started in the 1990s, like Slam Dunk.

I got into manga big-time in '92 because of Ranma 1/2.  That comic started in '89, IIRC.  And I like Urusei Yatsura...also an 80s (really very late 70s) creation.

And how can you talk about good 80's manga without even mentioning Akira? Good Lord, bebpo.

I mean, I'm not big on 80's manga or anything [nothing against it really, just not that big on manga in general outside of maybe a couple titles at a time], but 80's were an amazing time for anime. So many great series, so many great movies, so manga great one-shot OVAs that are almost completely unknown now.

Bubblegum Crisis is awesome. Although, I got into anime thanks to my cousins who lived there (military base) in the 80s and sent me videotapes of shows.

How the hell can anyone hate on Bubblegum Crisis though?!   :-\

Some of the episodes in the middle of the 80's OVA are pretty terrible [basically one arc], but everything else? It's anime gold.

Some good stuff, some not so good in there.  I stand by being anti-80s unless there are robots, though Ghibli is obviously always an exception.

Dirty Pair  :yuck

PS.
I don't care for the movie version of Akira.  Never read the manga though, so I won't say it's bad.

PSS.
I don't hate on Toriyama; I fucking love his Dragon Quest monster designs.  I think he's one of the best monster designers, but I am not a fan of his humans with the spikey hair and especially in DBZ with weird muscle men midget big spikey head proportions.

Hino also says he's going to fly over to Cali and beat up Bebpo for hating on 80's anime and manga!

I watched all of Umineko No Naku Koro Ni over the last week.  That was...weird.  While I enjoyed it overall, the main protagonist's denial of witchcraft continued to get more and more and more ridiculous, especially when
spoiler (click to show/hide)
he was in freaking purgatory getting tea from demonic butlers and watching the murder events/freezing time to view stuff.

Demon murderers as scantily-clad moe girls also did not fit the show at all, and for whatever reason nearly every female in the cast had freakishly-large knockers.  Again this did not fit the show at all.  But I still couldn't stop watching until the end...

...which ended too abruptly.  And it seems there's no second season in the works?   :-\

Also  :lol :lol :lol at the little girl getting bitch-slapped by her mother for use of "uguuuuuuuuuu" like voice.  Too bad her mother ended up abusing the shit out of her.   :(

umineko makes me angry, the premise is awesome but it gets tossed out continually for stuff that aren't "protagonist get to solve magic murder mystery"

and even with that i still want to know how it ends, and i will never know unless i end up digging the actual visual novel >:(

Shingeki no Kyojin is really becoming one of my all time favorite manga (love you, Viz).

It is fresh and ongoing but I still suggest everyone to take a look at it.

A number of guys at my work are in love with this series. I'll give it a shot.

There's apparently a live action movie based on this series currently being shot.
