The system, as it exists now, is not constructed in a way that's beneficial to the constiuents since there's so much power sharing inside the political corridors of D.C. and money with corporate sponsors.
You'd need mass reforms to really correct the political infrastucture of America, and unfortunately, that's our generation's fault. Every generation has had a responsibility at a certain point in time to fight for what they thought was right - whether it be freedoms or civil rights. But there's no leadership amongst the youth vote nowadays, and certainly nothing rivaling what generations past have been able to accomplish.
A lot of people have used the excuse that the Baby Boomers have outnumbered their kids, but their time is starting to pass. We're masters of our own destiny, but I think so many people from 18 - 35 are so focused on their own goals or are too apathetic to want to make a difference.
