But back to the NBA... how many players do you know by name? Average guy on the street?

LeBron, Kobe, Wade, KG, Carmelo, Dwight Howard, Nowitzki, Nash, Amare, Jason Kidd, Chris Paul, Durant? That about cover it? There are 8 teams that can play, 22 that can't. Of the 8, only 3 or 4 are actual threats to win a title. And on those, it usually rests all on one player. Great league.

On the other hand, it's not like MLB is much better. 3 or 4 teams that can win. Yankees, Red Sox, Angels, and Phillies.  It's great if you're a fan of one of those teams. If you're a fan of the Royals or Pirates, on the other hand, you tune out in mid-April.

I always never got fighting sports, especially UFC.  Like sports were originally invented to build up the skills needed to beat the shit out of each other.  Not to actually beat the shit out of each other.  I mean, at least boxing has some restrictions but UFC just suddenly got so popular now and to me it honestly feels like watching NASCAR.  It might require a lot of skill and technical knowledge to race a car like that but what are the fans interested in other than the car crashes?

About the fans, they're great actually.  I noticed this a lot with weight-lifting and mma fans where they like appreciate the thousands of hours of conditioning a fighter would need not to get his ass humiliated.  I actually have one friend where whenever he sees some guy with a UFC shit or cap or whatever in the gym who obviously doesn't train regularly, he goes up to him and starts talking to him about UFC and gets him to claim that he knows his shit around a ring and then he challenges him to either take off the UFC shirt or get into the ring.  If the democrats were UFC fans, we would have had a single-payer system.

I mean, most people know how to do a three-point shot or whatever but I can count on one hand finger how many people I know that can truly follow and train in the martial arts in these MMA sports.  They don't just watch a guy get kicked in the temple and put in a sleeper hold and marvel at how cool it looks.

Hockey is totally "not sure if want". My experience with the Olympics has sort of piqued my interest. Theres genuine moments of "breath holding" tension here and there. Lots of these sports are mired by overly long seasons though, which I can't get into.

NHL's rapid expansion into the sunbelt was one of the dumbest things ever - can't think of a comparable catastrophy from any league other than general dumbfuckery by David Stern. I don't know why anyone who grew up in those regions would all of a sudden take to a sport played on ice other than as a novelty.

My only complaint with baseball (aside from the fact that the Mets have yet to be contracted, of course) is the absurdly long Bataan Death March of a season.  When the WS ends in fuckin' November, you got problems.

On the flip side, I think this is why the NFL is so successful, to be honest.  16 games, then four more in the playoffs.  I'm honestly not sure that increasing the regular season to 18 games like they're rumored to be thinking about is that good of an idea!
