In short, someone didn't react how I was expecting.  The second time they did, but I wasn't willing to repeat what happened the first time.  First time I seemed like an angry jackass and the second time I came off like a zombie pussy.

It's a common industry tactic used to prevent people from walking into the kitchen and not paying attention to the commercial. The advertiser figures that if they crank up the volume, you'll at least be able to hear the commercial in the other room.
