FUCK YES, GOING TO COLLEGE
« on: April 09, 2010, 10:39:11 AM »
That's right. Apparently won't get funding for my upcoming year ( as I wanted to change my degree)...

Which means, I'm gonna have to quite college for a year or 2, save up enough money and probably go back ( Does anyone do this?)

fuck my life?

Nah man, Your life is awesome:

FUCK YES GUYS

Looks like I'm going to college next year!
I can apparently pay in instalments of 1075 every term. and I get 900 provided by student finance every term. This means, I only have to add a personal amount of 175 every term. HOLY FUCK GUYS, THAT WAS CLOSE

I AM GOING TO COLLEGE NEXT YEAR!

I dropped out way back when. Had $8k in student loans making $4.75/hr at a car dealership. Finally payed them off 6 years later when I hit the big time getting a job at a Toshiba factory making $7.85/hr.

You won't go back, i'm guaranteeing you that. You'll find a job, get comfortable and you won't go back and end up regretting it.

Just like me.  :-\

I've already applied for a few jobs in the past few days. If any of them go through, I'll take them on full time.

I dunno how it is in the UK, but in NA, if you get a job at a bank, they're amazing with internal training and hiring from within. Two of my friends had GEDs, started off as tellers and work as mortgage brokers now.

Wait? Really? You don't need a degree to do that? wow.

don't they hit the ceiling rather fast though without a college degree?  i know they'll pay for your full tuition or a good portion of it if you do decide to go to college after working for them for over a year or so though i've heard some banks have become less giving.

i should've become a teller  :'(

fuck

I do have some good expierence with adminstration/customer service/database maintenance. So that'll definitely land me in some jobs. I'm glad I took that internship ( even though it was just for 3 months ).

I'm also feeling a lot less stressed. Maybe a year or 2 off will do me good.

Yeah what mojo says happens a lot though I'm not sure in the UK if the banking sector has picked up....
The other thing is you'll mostly likely find a career (not job) any way and the go back to uni for your masters in that field when you're 40/50.

Jobs are much easier than uni- once you make some good money, have free time etc it will be like what did I waste time at uni for? Experience > degree

Good luck Veidt.

I left college my freshman year and stayed away for almost six years. I worked retail and then an office job for years. I finally did go back temporarily in order to qualify for dental insurance(I needed two root canals). I stayed on as a part time student while getting all the dental work done. Afterwards, I decided to stay on full time and will be graduating next year.

So turns out they're giving me 4000 to cover for any expenses ( but this isn't to cover for my tuition). I'm planning on using that money to finance myself for next year, though this money usually is deposited into my account in about a 3 weeks after registration day.  I'm planning on asking them whether it is possible to get it earlier, or ask the uni to allow me to register and expect payment 3 weeks later. Either way, looks like a pit I'm gonna have to dig myself through and I'll know at the end of this week whether I'll be able to get that money in time for registration day. If  I can't, I'll just chill and look for a job i guess.

So yeah, I'm a bit more optimistic!
