Because they want to you end up with extra money so its a never ending circle of buying and spending I suppose.

They do let you purchase games on demand at the exact price though.

Because then they couldn't screw you into buying more points than you need, that you will inevitably waste on some stupid crap like avatar clothes.

As mentioned, it's to have money left over that they can pool and collect interest of off.

Exactly the reason why iTunes cards are $10 but the songs are .99 leaving you with .10 left. multiply by millions and it's a nice chunk of change of free interest money for them.

Not really.

I don't know if it precalculates tax or what, but the points are more expensive than they are at the store for me when I log in. It's not at the prices listed at the top of the page either.

I just buy them at the store. It's much easier.
