Loose Talk has learned that Enslaved isn’t the only game Ninja Theory is working on-we’ve heard that the Cambridge, England developer is being tapped for the next Devil May Cry.

It is not totally unexpected, however; Capcom has said that although it is shying away from Western developer for new IP, it would continue to utilize them for known franchises, which DMC certainly is.

This sucks, but I want you all to flip out badly over it so I can laugh

Judging by their previous game, it'll be like Dante Of War.  Heavenly Sword, although it had many flaws, is a game that has been unfairly forgotten by Sfags.  Much of the cinematic stuff that they've come to enjoy in games like Uncharted and GOW were copycatted, almost directly, from HS.

that's cause SFags just hump the flavor of the month until its a bloody corpse, then forget about it quickly.

though if the demo was anything to go by, it's understandable in this case.

Heavenly Sword was like three or four hours long and the last boss soiled any enjoyment derived from it.  Ignoring the boring Kai sections, it is about three hours or so of so-so action gameplay.

And Smooth Groove, most people that do acknowledge Heavenly Sword do so for the cutscenes since they were well done.

still, DMC4 has a better cutscene than any in Heavenly Sword

Actually, I was thinking more of the QTC sequences and the zooming-in and out crap to make it look like a movie (supposedly).

If they just reuse DMC4's combat while adding some new Capcom-approved moves, and design a bunch of new Capcom-approved enemies and stages, then this might be okay. If they just get free reign to do whatever they want, this game will be garbage.

If this rumor is true, of course. And I really hope it's not.

Heavenly Sword's motion capturing was alright but it had some of the worst voice acting ever.  It shows you how much gaming nerds know about art when so many of them declared Heavenly Sword to be high drama like a Shakespearean play.

yeah, they could have kinda avoided that by having two modes.  The first is you playing as Nero the entire time and the second is playing as Dante.  Fighting the same bosses three times in a single player through is a bad choice, almost as bad as making you switch to a completely different character, then switch back at the end.

Robo

  • Senior Member
You fight the same bosses over and over in the other DMCs as well (is this a Capcom action staple or what?), but iirc, at least in the others there was some variance to the fights each time you re-encountered them, either via new tricks or a new environment (or both).  They're exactly the fucking same every time you fight them in DMC4, the only difference being you're using Dante instead of Nero --and in the endurance battles, no difference at all!

It's generally an action game thing where you fight the bosses again and it is true that DMC4 was the worst at it.

I like what Bayonetta does where bosses return as sub-bosses that are much weaker.

my playthroughs of DMC4:

Nero chapters -- fuck yea, awesome. rev rev rev
1st Dante chapter -- *disoriented* fuck
Next few Dante chapters -- okay, getting the hang of this...feels sacrilegious that i like nero better though
last Dante chapters -- just the same shit but backwards, fuck, this last statue fight is fucking terrible.
last Nero chapters-- FUCK THIS MOTHERFUCKING SHIT, fucking dice again and bosses for a third time, and an end boss that's a slightly different version of the one boss that wasn't repeated

*months elapse*

oh, think I'll play some DMC4 again. repeat.

I like it a lot though...only 360 game on demand I own besides Ninja Gaiden Black.

I'd would like a bit more defensive moves but not to the extent of Heavenly Sword.   HS took defense to the extreme.  Many of the big fights near the end consist of nothing but counter-moves.  You literally couldn't do any damage without countering.

DMC has been getting shittier by each iteration (sans 2, which was a clusterfuck).

I dig the first game with capable enemies and a slight horror tint. 3 was fun, but enemies were so shitty, both in design and as a threat, that I can't be bothered with it. 4 had the rev and the demon arm, but suffered from the same bullshit as 3, and more backtracking.

It's all about Bayonetta though, so capcom can do whatever with DMC.

3 was easily the hardest unless you played the special (aka for pussies) edition. Dante's devil trigger and grenade gun were OP in 1.

DMC3 is still the best action game to date imo.  No other game has created fighting so deep that it's essentially like playing a high level fighting game.  Plus the game has like a gazillion boss fights and they are almost all fantastic.  The level design is very compact which meant very little walking or backtracking.  It's just ACTION ACTION ACTION.

DMC4 is a step down, but it's still pretty darn good.  If DMC5 is outsourced, Capcom sucks.

Himu, how badass were you at DMC4?  I beat it on the highest difficulty.

for shame himuro, for shame.

Like Bayonetta, the starting difficulty is easy in DMC4.  You gotta beat that and play it on hard and up where the real game is to enjoy the combat.  Plus Bloody Palace is totally awesome.

dmc4's two different characters both had smaller movelists than dmc3 dante, and were way less fun to play as.  by the time i got to the end of each characters' campaign, i was completely sick of using the same small number of combos over and over.  no way in hell i'd ever go back and play through the other difficulties

Also, I highly doubt Bayonetta sends the player to do the same tasks and do the same areas and fight the same bosses OVER AND OVER. God, DMC4 sucks.

Seriously? You? Aside from Agni and Rudra I thought the bosses weren't that tough, and Agni and Rudra mostly sucked because of the backtracking.

I'm not even a gaming god. DMC3 is just easy. The enemies are non threatening, combos are easily to use and create.

I think playing DMC1 on DMD is what made me think DMC3 was so easy. DMC3 is peanuts compared to DMC1, in my opinion.

Why don't you understand that the reason they make your replay these bosses multiple times is because they are SUPER FUN fights and the core of the game.

Look at how fun it is in NG to play the mission mode stuff vs. the bosses in the game.  Bosses are the challenge, the focus and the fun of this genre of action game.  Nothing wrong with fighting them multiple times in the story.

Do people bitch about having to re-fight the bosses in Mega Man games?

Himu

  • Senior Member
MM bosses can be beaten in 10 seconds.

Fighting the same bosses over and over in DMC4 blows.

Rematch fights are fine. DMC1 does rematch fights as well. You fight the lava spider, for instance, like three fucking times. You fight Nelo Angelo like 4 times. There's a boss gauntlet at the end of game, and heck you revisit locations repeatedly. Despite all of this, the game contains more variety than DMC4. Same goes for Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2.

DMC 1 is easier. Neither really kicked my ass since I'm a boss and all, but DMC 3 was a notch above DMC 1 if only because you couldn't spam grenade roll and Air Raid and Meteor and Inferno over and over and over and over and destroy everything on DMD

edit: 4 did kinda suck after replaying 1 and 3. I think the only thing that saved it was the freshness of Nero (which was pretty awesome) and playing in HD.

I think DMC1 is harder because the enemies actually want you to die and pursue you. It's not "let's stand here for 30 seconds" that is found in DMC3/4. I found most enemies in those games to be combo fodder.

You guys wanna talk about a hard pure action 3d game?

I beat DMC1 on DMD also, but I still thought DMC3 was hard as hell.  The regular enemies are cake, but I had to replay every boss at least 5 times before I could progress.  Maybe I just shouldn't have tried to play through it with Royal Guard the first time through.  Couldn't resist the parrying.

Holy shit, no wonder you had so much trouble. Mastering RG is the best challenge in DMC3. I'll give it that much.

Maybe it depends on the styles we use. I mostly stuck with trickster with a bit of RG thrown in.
