Good numbers for FF even though I wasn't a fan of the game. I kinda expected the PS3 domination on it also.

What's funny is that Strange Journey was downloaded over 100k times at a single site.  That is the only time a game in that series will break 100k in any metric. :teehee

I did my part and bought RoF last month.

As for Yakuza 3, Sega of America took way too long to announce it. I bought a Japanese copy of RGG3 and recently got RGG4.

Yakuza 3 wouldn't have sold jack if it was released day and date with the Japanese version and with nothing cut. It's niche game for this country.

It's become a real signature and iconic series for the Platform. And it's pretty much become the #1 brawler series in the West. Also the really long wait built up the hype pretty well.

Yep.

The problem with Yakuza is while the fiction is interesting, the actual gameplay is very very Japanese.

But there have always been more popular series for the Playstation, like DMC and MGS, etc. You know, the ones that Sony fans used to love before they went multi-platform.

True but still.

God Of War 2 did like 2 million in its first month, so considering how friggin front loaded these big games are, these figures aren't impressive at all.

Ps3 losing in a month with one of Sonys biggest 1st parties launching, and Final Fantasy XIII, a franchise very much associated with Playstation....is lol worthy.

MGS sold really well for coming out early in the gen and being on the PS3. It's still a heavy hitter franchise.

I don't remember the sales numbers for the early DMC games but that series is definitely below God of War now on the pecking order when it comes to a western audience. That is a game that is truly more popular on the internet now than it is in real life.

God of War is more accessible from a gameplay perspective and a theme perspective for Westerners and Sony pumps a lot of dev time into production along with big marketing.

Actually, no. GoWII's first month was 833K. III debuted higher.

That said, the hardware does not surprise me. Once again, the idea that a single game (or a pair of games, given FFXIII) will propel a console to a significant gain proves false, particularly a known commodity and 3.5 years into the console's life cycle.

I remember Sony mentioning some numbers around that, guess it was worldwide.

Halo 3 broke records, on a smaller userbase. Again, games are heavily front loaded this generation on the HD platforms. Not surprising at all.

Regarding supply problems, geez, it has been like what? 4 months now? Still going? Didn't Sony say they were going to have more product because of Gow 3?

I guess shortages are going to last until the end of the generation.

Hey don't shoot the messenger, I'm just relaying what they (Sony) + retailers have been saying for the past few months. They did indeed state that they would supply more consoles to retailers for GOW week, how many more is anyone's guess.

Of course GOWIII won't have insanely long legs, only Nintendo games have succeeded tremendously months + years after they're released.

It's a bad game. I've spent 40 hours already and I'm honestly wondering how this game got released.

If Vs13 has the same archaic gameplay structure and progression as FF13, then the 13 series will officially be the worst entry in FF history.

My bad, but I dont remember the original bad company doing this well.

Stoney: Usually when it comes to derivative products I expect a few hundred thousand in the first and second months with a dramatic drop off afterwards. That's the pattern I usually see. I don't know the specifics of the game as to how it differentiates itself from the genre kings, but I think its remarkable that it put up these figures.  Just go back and look at killzone, borderlands, army of two, first bad company, etc.

Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 did 752k in March of 2008 on the 360. And it was released on the 18th of that month.

If you release a big time multi-platform shooter this gen on the hd systems it will sell well. Especially if you put a lot of dollars into the marketing and having a modern military theme only helps. We are beyond just halo fans buying shooters now.

It helps of course also if the game is good which Bad Company 2 is. After MW 2 just sold like crazy there is also probably a big portion of that audience that is hungry for something similar 4 or 5 months down the road.

Unless its called MAG.  :lol

I think the original Bad Company was DICE's first console game (I could be wrong). I think the game had some momentum after Battlefield 1943, which was released at a great time last summer and was hugely successful

They did Battlefield 2: Modern Combat last gen on consoles but this recent edition is the first time they finally got it right on consoles. It's full game with a full single player and a multiplayer part. And its certainly the best console game they've done. The first Bad Company had a lot of issues. This one has far less issues and is a legit good game. And it did come after 1943 which helped spread awareness of the series on consoles.

If we didn't already know that it was over for PlayStation 3, these sales figures just confirmed it.

You know you want it.  :D

Would like to add that MAG shouldn't have done more than 50k. Game was a massive piece of shit.

Never played it so I can't comment other than it has one of the most annoying fanbases on GAF when people were actually interested in talking about the game which they aren't now.

If you want big sales though its a questionable decision to release an MP only title on consoles for $60. Not to mention they never really articulated in the marketing why 256 was a big deal and why you should care.

Not saying it isn't a big deal necessarily. Just saying they were never able to articulate why it was a big deal for a normal person.
