Well, I was looking forward to watching this when I got home but one of my co-workers spoiled it for me, after I asked him not to mention it first thing in the morning and stayed off all the news sites, Facebook, Twitter etc all goddamn day. Oh well, sounds like a sucky game on the whole. I wasn't expecting the Celts to take game 1 in Staples, but it certainly sounds like the Lakers aren't going to fold. Should go 6 games at least though, right? I can't take a blow-out series...

Didn't get a chance to watch the game last night so downloading it before I left this morning. Good to see the Celtics making it a series though.

Watched that game when I got home. Entertaining game.

My thoughts are as follows.

Gasol and Bynum can be beasts when they want to be. That does not bode well for the Celtics.
Garnett's decline is swift and sad.
Even though the Celtics won I sort of felt like it was a lucky win. Kobe was in foul trouble and a couple of those calls were definitely questionable. Sort of changed the dynamic of the game and how Kobe could play.
It will interesting to see how the Lakers play on the road.

Also Rondo  :bow2

Lakers fans shouldn't be complaining about fouls.  Ever since Artest became a Laker, he's been allowed to play the type of defense that the new rules were designed to curtail.

Both Boston and LA play in a style befitted by the officiating. These games have also been highly boring.

Also, lol at David Falk in this Parade article on the NBA's future

http://www.parade.com/news/2010/06/06-6-ways-to-fix-the-nba.html

Quote
2. Change the salary structure. “The current system limits the salaries of the few legitimate superstars but raises the salaries of average players,” agent David Falk declares. “We’v e created almost a socialistic state in the NBA, robbing from the stars to pay the average players. We also have to stop paying the replaceable players big money. When role players think they are stars, they won’t play hard. If you paid your secretary $750,000 a year, do you think she’d still get you coffee?”

Kobe getting too much credit as usual.  It's not clutch if you finally hit one after missing 8.   ::)

Also, KG had a pretty good game statistically but still kinda :fbm.  There were at least two plays when old KG would have smashed on Gasol.

Looks like all that talk about Rondo really lit a fire under Fisher tonight.

That shot he just made over 3 Celtics looked amazing in slow-mo.  Too bad ABC just had to include Kobe as part of the moment again.

I wish the media would just give up the fuck up on the Kobe as the new Jordan campaign.

He's a great player and has had a nice coming out party during the playoffs but good lord it's annoying. I hate being "that guy" who complains about the media hyping a player (think GAF on LeBron, Brady, Favre, etc) although I won't take it to a point where I wind up hating the player

I do not have a problem with it so far. Boston totally depends on him.

The Kobe narrative bothers me more. He's had two bad games in a row and is taking 30 shots when the Lakers are much better when Gasol gets touches. As these playoffs have gone on, Gasol has faded from the offense. I do not understand if its his passiveness or Kobe's need to take credit. And the Laker fans keep bitching about the refs, but if you want Boston in foul trouble you should be feeding Pau. Kobe is more an outside player these days.

Kobe took multiple bad shots tonight. Some went in and really wowed me, but others were so bad I was having flashbacks of him jacking 3s against Utah many moons ago. He has improved as a team player but it's obvious he wants the glory here. Gasol can dominate Garnett, and command a double team at times. Kobe wants to provide the dagger, but it's not what's important right now.

After 3 games now its really hard to see the Celtics winning.

Gasol has improved so much in recent years its not even funny. I didn't quite realize how much until I saw him in this series. Even Bynum impresses me gimpy knee and all. As long as the rest of the players play their role, they should be fine.

Pierce and Allen seem too inconsistent on the offensive end. And Garnett has declined too much on the defensive end to be the force he once was. So that basically leaves Rondo as the consistent force who has to win this series for the Celtics along with overall team defense.

The Celtics have a bit too much pride and talent to go quietly but its kinda hard to envision the scenario where they win.

I agree, Stoney. I can't see it either. The celts have to live and die by the jumper. They have little inside game. I saw Garnett get blocked twice last night. The Lakers are playing great paint D.

Lakers are going to lose if their offense consists of Kobe taking bad shots, and everyone else standing around. The Celtics can't stop Gasol, he needs to get the ball

It was pretty compelling stuff. There was this tension you could feel both in yourself and in the crowd for how long he would go with them and if he would go with them too long. I think everybody sort of had it in the back of their mind that he would overplay them but honestly he did a great job with leaving them out there for the perfect amount of time.

Yeah, like I mentioned in the last game, Boston just can't seem to make layups.  It's simply ridiculous for players of that level to miss such easy shots.

Why was everyone so upset at Nate's reaction to Odom's foul, which easily could have been considered flagarant?  Odom literally body-slammed him.  Nate being pissed off was completely understandable.
