Why do people feel sorry for a dude who got a $30mil payoff?
Most "normal" people don't feel sorry for him in that sense. Most normal people probably relate mostly in the sense of losing something specific that you wanted no matter what that may be. While I completely understand the business side of what happened, I also don't think he got treated very well but he seems to be doing fine. Will get his own show soon, etc. Most people probably feel somewhere between the extremes of Team Coco or Team Leno style cheerleading that occurred on forums as this went down.
