So what does everyone think of NAIR-gate?!
« on: May 04, 2010, 02:18:27 PM »
So Justin McElroy of Joystiq posts this video demonstrating his frustration over a mandatory fishing game.  He decides that the game is not worth a review as a result of its tediousness and his inability to master the challenge.

Has McElroy permanently degraded the face of game journalism? y/n

Or maybe he's just an impotent non-gamer who can't handle a challenge.  See above post ^

Only a fool keeps playing something he doesn't like. Or actually reads Joystiq reviews.

When I posted on jstiq, long before I knew about EB or gaf, I once received the Justin McElroy burn of the day for annihilating one of the resident trolls. There was peace on the internet that day.

1. the fishing game is easy as fuck if you actually go to the place marked on your map
2. if you fail it three times because you suck, the game GIVES you the fish
3. you never hafta touch the fishing game again

dipshit went to the fishing area adjacent to the quest giver which is for folks with a high level fishing skill, proceeded to self-pwn for an hour, and then blubbered off to the internet. we call this "fail" in the parlance of the interfag

The guy admits at the bottom of the article after his rant video that it's true, but he just couldn't continue because the game had "already broken his spirit."

Takahashi gave Mass Effect a horrible review and called it "Mass Defect" only to later find out that he hadn't bothered to use the talent points to level up any of his characters throughout the game.  So he somehow managed to finish the game with all his characters stuck at level 1 stats.

Whoops! :lol

Quote from: Dean Takahashi circa 2007
The tactical play is horrendous. That wasn’t so evident on the early Eden Prime level, but once you’re off in the missions to other planets, it becomes overwhelmingly bad. You feel like you’re fighting with extremely incapable soldiers.

You never run out of ammo. But you’re always shooting these solid mass bullets at the enemy. Every guns sounds and fires and behaves the same, whether it’s a shotgun or an assault rifle. Stupid. Then, when you’re shooting at a target, an orange box appears as the one and only place on that target where you can actually hit them with a mass bullet. That’s not even close to realistic, and counts as stupid No. 2. Then you can’t even tell if you’ve hit your target because your target just keeps coming at you or does not even flinch upon impact, whether their shields are up or down. That’s stupid no. 3. You get a red bar that shows exactly how many times you have to shoot the enemy in order to take them down, no matter whether you’re getting in the equivalent of head shots or toe shots. The grenades are equally stupid. They fly in straight lines like hockey pucks on ice until they hit something. That something will often keep running right at you and then blow you up.

Quote from: Dean Takahashi a few days later
The dumb thing about the way I played the game, as many pointed out, is that I didn’t make use of my Talent Points. I started the game doing so, but while on Feros, I didn’t pay attention to all the Talent Points I was accumulating after every encounter. Those points just sat there.

Not for me.  I played as a soldier.

Also, all the guns worked differently.  Takahashi obviously didn't know what he was doing/wasn't paying attention.

The orange box just indicates when a target is in sight, isn't it?  You can still do headshots and shit, it's just more difficult in the first one than in the second.

heh. reviewer blinders. he's on the clock and wants to finish the game as fast as possible to move on to the next one. and I doubt he read any of the info in the printouts he got with the review copy

check out his posts in the gaf thread http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=21105403&postcount=553 what a freaking moron

my favourite part of the gaf thread though was the amount of other bloggotypists seemingly alerted to the plight of their fellow trucker by the twitterosphere or something. absolutely pathetic. I have no idea what makes these losers feel like they have to stick together and stick up for each other, but it only reminds me of truckers. or motorbikers. although these internet typists are obviously far more pathetic

Playing the game like we hoped? lol. How about flatout playing the game wrong. This is like getting pissed at an action game because you chose not to press the attack button and lost. What a fucking whiner
