The Spoils TCG

so apparently this is getting a reboot
this is a pretty cool MTG clone with a pretty weird sense of humor and also awesome art, they also had this pretty good idea in that you can play any card as a colorless land so you can't get manascrewed, also you can't draw and play a land unlike in magic as you can only pick one of these options (tough you can pay extra mana to draw more cards or play more lands) like magic there are 5 faction

Arcanist

these guys focus on discard and being unblockable making them sort of like a mix of black/blue some cards also have some fixation with odd numbers and also a thing for token manipulation, the theme is mostly odd creature/insect and creepy cults

(this card is well suited for combo so...)

Bankers

bankers have some of the better removal and also have tons of way for drawing cards, they also have cards creature that are over the power curve but have nasty backdraws, they also feature defensive creature altough they don't get used much,if you ask me those are the two better aspect of magic black/blue then you throw a little of white and bankers become a somewhat overpowered faction, the theme of bankers is corporate business and burocracy, also they have lawyers in their creature selection

Gearsmith

gearsmith are the green color, they like to generate extra mana and also have tons of powerfull but costly creature, their theme is techonology with some gearsmith cards speaking in "l33t" speech, they also specialize in equipment

Rogue

rogue is the only color which really don't compare to a magic color because the entire point of the rogue faction is to use the cards of your opponent against him by stealing them (no wait, maybe it's an exagerated blue) this makes rogue a veeeeeery annoying faction (yep blue) and kinda make gearsmith big creature useless as they can just get stealed away, rogue also focus on the speed stat, character with a higher speed stat, attack first so it's like magic first strike
their theme is cunning and thievery (duh!)

Warlord

warlord is the last faction and like gearsmith,it's a pretty easy one to describe, basicaly this is the spoils "red",they focus on offense and can deal direct damage, their theme is military, and some of their cards tend to get somewhat gory

I don't even play much magic anymore, due to no one really being around.  I do not need another time sink and money hole when I still don't make enough to move out of my parents house.

Pretty cool.

I wonder if that old lady is making a deposit or withdrawal.

I play Magic not for its mechanics or flavor, but for its well-developed metagame and robust local support ( I can basically play three-four paper tournaments a week here, ranging from Standard to Legacy, as well as Limited).

Looking at their calendar of events, it is WAY easier for me to find even a 10-proxy MTG Vintage tourney than find a tournament to play this game. Critical mass is a Really Big Deal with these sorts of games, though if they have something good on their hands I hope they keep pushing it.

Frag- you going to Regionals ("National Qualifiers") in a week in a half?  I think me and some of the local dorks are gonna go.  There's also talk of trying to make it up to DC for the GP.

I might be in Burlington. I hate standard though-hopefully even if I drop early there will be some decent side events.

Definitely not going to GP DC. Would LOVE to go to GP Columbus but I think it's one state too far.  :'(

I'm pretty sure me and at least one or two of the other dudes at the local shop are going to Burlington.  Standard does suck donkey balls now, but if I go I'm probably gonna play Mythic Conscription (if I can borrow the cards I need for it) or Time Sieve combo since I actually enjoy playing that deck.

I've got 3 Knights of the Reliquary and can bust out my set of Misty Rainforests on loan if you're playing Mythic Bant.

edit: assuming I decide to go ofc.

Got four Knights, would need Mistys, Hierarchs and maybe Baneslayers.  Actually, I could probably borrow most of that except the Baneslayers... I think I have $50 in store credit sitting up at the store so I guess I could invest in some Walletslayers.  Ugh.  Maybe I'll sell my playsets of some stuff I'm not using (Vampire Nocturnus, Maelstrom Pulse, etc).

4-0 in draft tonight. Eldrazi limited is a ton of fun becasue stuff that shouldn't work manages to "get there".

Aura Gnarlid is BOSS btw if you draft around him. My first three picks were Awakening Zone, Bear Umbra, Boar Umbra, so yeah going auras+black for removal/cheap flyers was nice. I would have preferred white but it didn't look open in the first pack (but it actually was).

Edit: 11/11 Aura Gnarlid (the other dude had dropped THREE nacrolepsies) was a hilarious topdeck.

MtG D00dz, isn't there a Magic the Gathering thread for this?

The Spoils: I like the steampunk vibe, but can't see myself ever picking up another CCG. They're too expensive and addictive; and as was noted, they've got to have a certain critical mass or you're always just a loser with a deck that no-one will play with you. (and by "you" I mean "me")
