Have you played Paper Mario TTYD Himuro? That's probably my favorite GC game. Every Mario RPG since then has been a big disappointment for me.

It just has the best story, writing, characters, etc. (basically everything besides the combat) in a Mario RPG. Nothing too serious obviously, just lighthearted fun. Same timing-based combat as the other games though, so if you don't like that then yeah might as well skip it.

Wow, you never played SMG up until now? Goodness gracious.

I'm still waiting to play it.

I figure by the time I break down and buy a Wii, SMG and SMG2 will be dirt cheap along with some other stuff so it won't feel like a complete waste like my gamecube was.

TTYD isn't bad,i've had tons of fun the first time i played trough it but replaying it recently it just didn't have the same punch...

basicaly it uses the same timed hit system in every other mario rpg and uh... you get partner, each come with a different ability to use,and the story is made of quirky segments altough sometimes it gets boring

Mario Galaxy is cool for the first few worlds. Then they make you go back and forth... back and forth... cause of the stupid comets. I got bored of it halfway through, and it became a chore.

I heard the No More Heroes games are decent, but I've never picked them up or rented them.  I was hoping the HD version of the first games were going to be decent, but I hear they're abortions as far as up ports are concerned, which is sad.

It is supposed to be getting a mega-patch to fix all its problems in the next week or two.

that list only goes 30 days back, in case you haven't noticed. it's really not that hard to troll the wii. put in a little more effort.

Wii trolls should put in as little effort as developers do.

Played a bit of Muramasa, it looks absolutely stunning and is a pretty decent action-brawler. It's a billion times better than Odin Sphere, and if you're a 2D whore like I am, it's a must own.

Kororinpa: Marble Mania is a lot of fun, if you like marble rolling. It doesn't have a lot of levels, unfortunately, and can be beaten in a few hours... The sequel has a lot more content, unfortunately, it also fucked up the controls big-time.

Klonoa, if you never played it on PS1 (I haven't), is a really fun 2.5D platformer, that actually gets challenging towards the end of the game.

FF:CC: The Crystal Bearers, I recently finished it, and it's fairly entertaining but shallow and filled with its share of issues. It's one of the best looking Wii games (if you can get over the jaggies), and the mechanic (telekinesis to pick up monsters and fling them at each other) is cool, they also use it in pretty creative ways (aim a Bomb into the ground to set a mine, pick up a Cactuar and it shoots spikes everywhere). The characters are cool, perky and upbeat but not annoying... Great music, VA sucks though. There are a lot of dodgy waggle minigames interspersed with the action. If you can get it cheap, it's worth it.

Opoona is supposed to actually be decent, and can be had for only $10. I bought it but never played it.

Get the homebrew channel, it's damn sweet. I just installed it earlier today on a Wii which had the 4.2 firmware following that video above and the links to files it had. It can't brick your wii and you need it if you want to do the softmod for playing 'backups' later. I don't think there's any difference bar the DVD drives in the white and black and I just finished modding mine and didn't touch the dvd drive. I'll be running from USB anyway. definitely not DVD's.

If something else messes up - GPU errors, DVD drive errors, Nintendo will check for any modification and see Homebrew Channel and tell him to fuck off.

I would wait until any warranties are up before modifiying my fresh new Wii.

After they received the Wii, they wrote him back and said that because he had unauthorized software installed (something they could not fix themselves — but more on this later), it would cost $200 for them to do any repair.  He had them just send him back the Wii, they would not work on it. They sent him back his Wii

I will try and provide brief impressions to the games I own or have played (for more than an hour).  Just as a reference, I don't mind mini-game collections if they're good; if I say something like Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games is bad, it means it even fails at being a being a shallow momentary distraction.

Mario Strikers Charged:     Fun arcade soccer game.  Great multiplayer, think it has online too.
Pro Evo Soccer 2008:     Different kind of soccer game based around the pointers.  Good game.
Marble Saga Kororinpa (2nd one):     The best Marble Madness/Monkey Ball style game on the Wii.
House of the Dead Overkill:     Great light/rail gun shooter mix, and while I didn't care for the wannabe grind house cutscenes, others liked it.
House of the Dead 2&3:    It's house of the dead 2 and 3...yeah.  If you have a Lightgun shell like Nyko's Perfect Shot, this has a calibration tool to make it control "right"
Ghost Squad:    Ditto to everything with HOTD2&3.
Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles:      Similar to HOTD Overkill but total garbage.  Pass on it.
MLB Power Pros:     It's a japanese baseball game.  Easiest way to describe it would be to say it is like RBI Baseball on the NES.
Nights 2:     Haven't played much but seems enjoyable.  Original Nights was great and this didn't seem as good, but I still want to go back to it.
Links Crossbow Training:      It's like $2 and is a fun target shooter, rail shooter, lightgun shooter, third person shooter based around assets from Twilight Princess.
Warioware Smooth Moves:     It's Warioware where the gimmick is now a bunch of waggle games.  It's fun.
Boom Blox:     haven't played the sequel, but the first one is a really fun puzzle game.  It's about chain reactions and physics and stuff, kinda like Burnout Crash mode.
NSMB Wii:     Awesome.  It's a bit easy, the music and general style is lacking whimsy, and some levels resort to waggle dipshittery, but it's a 2D mario with great single and multiplayer.
Mario Party 8:     Garbage
Mario and Sonic Olympic Games:     Ultra Garbage
Dead Space Extraction:    Got bored after an hour.  Seems as much about having you watch cutscenes in first person than being a lightgun/railgun shooter.  Looks great, at least.
Red Steel:     Broken FPS/waggle slash game set in racist modern Japan.  Still, uh, if you enjoy bad games that still provide some entertainment, this is one.
Red Steel 2:     Only played about an hour and it seems fun.  Lacked the impact of a first person brawler and felt more like shallow Devil May Cry in first person.  Will buy it eventually.
Sin and Punishment 2:     Only played a bit but it was pretty awesome.  Runs smooth and has great pointer controls with no waggle shit.
Silent Hill Shattered Memories:     More Heavy Rain or Myst than Silent Hill.  Walk around environments, solve neat puzzles, and occasionally deal with terrible chases.  I liked it.
Punch-Out:     It's Punch Out 1 on NES.  That's pretty much it.  If you played Punch Out on NES, you have played this.
Final Fantasy CC Crystal Bearers:     Tiesto's impressions are spot on.  Shallow lighthearted entertainment.  I enjoyed it.
Excite Truck:     Feels like off road burnout.  As much about earning stars from driving than it is about placing.  Really fun racing game.
ExciteBots:     Trash.  Takes Excite Truck concept and turns it into doing stupid mini-games on a loop.
No More Heroes:   Shallow action game.  It has style and that makes it entertaining, especially the boss fights, and after NMH2 I appreciated this game more.
No More Heroes 2:    Trash.  Bad action game with no personality.  If you enjoyed the first game at all, I dunno, but NMH2 feels like a giant waste of time.
Metroid Prime 3 (or Trilogy):    Really, if you played Metroid Prime 1 or 2, you know that MP3 is already.  Big change are the controls, which are great pointer controls now.
Wii Sports Resort:     Ping pong, bowling, golf and sword fighting are awesome.  The rest are boring.
Wii Sports:    Like WSR, but older and worse.  Best parts from WS are recreated in WSR.
Mario Kart Wii:    I think it is one of the weakest Mario Kart games, but still entertaining.  Feels very slow and requires less skill than older games.  Fairly sterile look, too.
Zack and Wiki:    It's a puzzle game made up of puzzles you'd find in an adventure game.  I think it's great despite the occasional control issues.
Wario Land Shake It:     Really super easy 2D platformer that is most worth it for how nice it looks, especially in motion (more than Muramasa and Odin Sphere)
Little Kings Story:     Awesome game.  Mix of Pikmin, city builder, and shooter with whimsy out the ass.  Best Wii game of last year.
Resident Evil 4 Wii:   Best and most complete version of RE4.  Worth buying it again.
MadWorld:  I liked someone else's description of an inferior Dead Rising.  You use environment on enemies to build points to unlock boss fight.  It's fun, not great.
Gundam Sensen (import):   It's an FPS Gundam game with a squad, customization, and a lot of missions to take on.  Great but it is an import, so no english.
Tatsunoko vs Capcom (import):   Haven't played the US verison but the import is basically a shallower version of MvC.
Disaster Day of Crisis (import):  Entire game is a Michael Bay wankfest.  The story is basically The Rock.  The game itself is a bad lightgun game mixed with waggle mini-games.
Tenchu 4 Shadow Assassins:   Awesome.  Action/puzzle stealth with wonky Wii controls.  If you have a PSP, get that version instead.
Sonic and Secret Rings:     Not good.  It's one of those games where people claim it's "sonic in 3D done right" because you run really fast, but it's just boring.
Elebits:   Fun game where you have a gravity gun and throw chair and shit around a room to find little creatures.
Batallion Wars 2:   Barely played this because I found it boring.  Seems like third person squad based shooter or something.
Castlevania Judgement:   Shallow by arena fighter standards with neat Castlevania fanservice.  Not worth it.
We Love Golf:   Trash.  Controls don't work.
Super Swing Golf Pangya:   Like Hot Shots/Mario Golf with worse controls.  Actually, if you get a Golf game, get Tiger Woods that supports Motion plus.
SSX Blur:    Not good.  If it didn't have terrible controls it would be interesting, but it does!
Super Paper Mario:    Boring mario action rpg that is SO BORING
Klonoa:    It's a Klonoa 1 remake.   Awesome if you haven't played it before, still awesome if you are playing it again.
The Conduit:   Trashy first person shooter on Wii.  If you own any other system, there are far better FPS games to play.
Wii Music:   Trash.  You waggle to free midi music and shit like that.  Insulting by baby toy standards.
Victorious Boxers Revolution:   aka Hajime no Ippo boxing game that isn't as good as the PS2 games.
DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3:   fun Dragon Ball Z fighting game with pretty much every character from DB, DBZ, and DBGT.
Samba De Amigo:    It's Samba De Amigo if the controls didn't work.
Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz:   Trash.  Get Kororinpa.

oh, and Wiiware:

Bit.Trip Beat:  entertaining pong based rhythm game
Art Style Orbital or w/e they call it:   Great game based around gravity and planet orbits.
Castlevania:   It's a pre-SOTN Castlevania game and it's pretty awesome.
Lost Winds:   Short but entertaining.
Cave Story:   If it's like Cave Story on PC, it's awesome.  Metroid style game.

I'm forgetting a few games.  I sold a lot of my Wii games and since most were so boring I forgot about them.  But one I just saw on my shelf was Smash Bros Brawl; that game is pretty fun.  Single player is a weak platformer/action game and multiplayer feels like a dumbed down Melee.  Still worth it if you enjoyed Melee.

I read that post on hackmii earlier and I figured it would have been to do with using a custom IOS not just HBC. I imagine something will pop up on HBC soon anyway helping people to cleanse their HD's of all incriminating bits and bytes if they do want to send it away.

based on my brief time with Red Steel 2, Wii Sports Resort sword fighting was a lot more satisfying.  Red Steel 2 feels like a paper fan simulator.  I'll still buy it eventually since I heard later moves feel better and it seemed fun.  All I'm saying is that I hit a guy once in WSR with a kendo sword and he gets knocked around; in RS2, I slash back and forth and the dude just stands there like I didn't just slash him a couple times with a sharp metal sword.

Like, play breakdown or maken x.  hitting enemies in those games is so satisfying.

...how long did you play red steel 2? it's biggest strength is that it makes you feel like a total badass. the first hour is basically an extended tutorial, but from then on you start unlocking more and more sword maneuvers and weaponry.

i really wanted to like maken x, but then i played it. i'm a DC lover, but that control scheme was such a POS.

Nobody interested in Boy and his Blob?  I just ordered it the other day after seeing a chance review on TV.  Although it's a remake, it looks like one of the gems on the system (the other being Boom Blox 2 which is utterly, utterly kick-ass).

it's a boring game

thereoticaly this should be a puzzle game but in most of the stage you can only use 2-3 transformation making it pretty easy to figure out what to do and even then sometimes there are billboards telling you straight what to do

but awwwwwwwwwwww isn't the little kid cute when he hugs the blob after pressing the hug button  :-[

Oh - and get your drool cup ready, cause it requires more skill to keep your spit in one spot than it is to play Klonoa and Boy and his Blob

Klonoa isn't a straight port,it's Klonoa 1 done like Klonoa 2,voice acting (altough you can still use the cute squeaky voices) and redone cutscene

that said i think the game lost something in the meanwhile, either that or i simply didn't like klonoa a second time

Super Mario Galaxy is the first Mario since Yoshi's Island to get it right. Although I love Sunshine, it's not perfect and not what I wold consider a masterpiece. Galaxy, however, is the complete package. The more I play the better it gets and the more in-depth the level design becomes. Simply put, this could be one of the few games I consider perfect, but I'll have to keep playing. It's so refreshing to play a Mario game with actually good, tight level design again.

I haven't played a level or task that felt like a complete waste of time in Galaxy yet, which is far cry to Sunshine, World, 3, 1, and most especially 64.

No More Heroes is not Killer 7. But it's about the next best thing.

The only thing I dislike so far are the crappy side-missions and overworld but other than that, it's pretty standard Suda 51 shenanigans, although not nearly as off the wall as K7, but not many games are.

Ripping a dude in half with the wiimote is so satisfying and the dialogue is hilarious. I also like how it makes digs at otaku sub-culture: "moe!" and Travis' extensive animie/figurine/t-shirt collection. :lol

...how long did you play red steel 2? it's biggest strength is that it makes you feel like a total badass. the first hour is basically an extended tutorial, but from then on you start unlocking more and more sword maneuvers and weaponry.

i really wanted to like maken x, but then i played it. i'm a DC lover, but that control scheme was such a POS.

I played it for around 40 minutes to an hour somewhere in the middle of the game.  Only thing I remember is fighting a dude with a chaingun at one point who shot me through walls, and there was a part with a train.

and the controls from Maken X are pretty much exactly what Retro used for Metroid Prime.  Just random information.

Has there been anything on the Wii worth playing in 2010?

Last game I got was Regenleiv in February, I already have S&P2 and no interest in MoHu3.  Anything else notable to check out before Galaxy 2 hits?

Red Steel 2 and Fragile maybe.  I need to check out Fragile eventually.

Muscle March is some whacky jappy shit fueled by an obsession with buff westerners. It's distinguished mentally-challenged but I had fun playing it. It's really damned frustrating though  >:( God damn Mech Muscle :maf

Because I don't have time to play online games, I don't like the controls, and the progression seems like an MMO, which I hate.  I also don't like PSO for all the same reasons.
Give MH a single player 15 hour action game spinoff like dino crisis 2 and I'm in.

And trauma team is not my kind of thing.  Playing with body parts is not a "fun videogame" for me.

Smh, Trauma Center is one of the best original games to spawn from touch gaming/waggling.

If I could enjoy trauma center I'd be a doctor, not a lawyer.

playing with them is not fun!

I'm down with horror movies because the gore is cartoony and silly.  I dig gore in horror films.  But Trauma Center is trying to be like REALISTIC DOCTOR SIMULATOR and I can't handle that.
