Fallout: New Vegas - "collectors" edition unveiled
« on: May 12, 2010, 11:38:06 PM »
Quote from:  mightyape.co.nz
Bethesda have announced the Fallout: New Vegas Collector's Edition for the PC, Xbox 360 and PC. Due for release in October alongside the standard edition, this superb looking set will contain:

“Lucky 7” poker chips. Each of the seven poker chips was designed to represent chips from the major casinos found on the New Vegas strip and throughout the Mojave Wasteland.
Fully customised Fallout: New Vegas deck of cards. Each card in the pack has been uniquely illustrated to depict characters and factions found within the game.
Recreation of the game’s highly coveted “Lucky 38” platinum chip.
Hardcover graphic novel “All Roads”, that tells the story of some of the characters and events that lead up to Fallout: New Vegas.
‘Making of Fallout: New Vegas’ DVD. Will contain exclusive video content, including interviews with the developers in which they take you from concept to creation and discuss topics such as story, setting, legacy of the Fallout franchise and more.

Anyone willing to blow their hard earned cash on this extra box of crap? I sure am! Mainly for the playing cards.

The price is still TBC, so Im not sure wether I'll splash out on this thang.

150NZD and I'll bite, seeing as the standard edition will be 130

Hopefully Amazon will have a ton of sales for it that make it cheaper than the standard version like they did with Fallout 3.

I'm really tempted to just wait a year on this and buy the version with all the DLCs there will inevitably be, but I dunno if I can hold out that long

With Fallout, I need the CE. Don't know why. But I love Fallout.

I'm all over it.  I make no excuses for being a total Bethesda mark, and I love that their Collector's Editions always have stuff in them that looks like it came straight out of the game world.  They're the only CE's I buy.

The Pip Boy replica clock in 3's limited edition was pretty neat, even though it drained its batteries in about a day.

Are they changing the combat?  I'd like it to be based on player skill more than Fallout 3's system.

they did mention that it can be played more like a shooter and you can aim down the sights now.

I don't know what game everyone else was playing, but it played like Doom 3 when I played it.  I just ran around with a shotgun and blew up everyone that rushed me.  Used rockets on Mutants.

It's why I don't like Fallout 3's combat.  It felt like any generic FPS when I wanted a stats based rpg.  I already know going in that I'm probably going to hate the gameplay of NV, so I'm just hoping the quests and characters are awesome and make up for generic FPS shooter in my rpg.

I would agree if it was using a hot new engine like Rage or hell even the Borderlands engine. But its still gonna be that janky Fallout 3 engine. I just can't imagine a "shooter" using that engine. But hey if that's the route they want to take.

Just seems sort of weird to me because it kind of removes the RPG element from the shooting. Which seems like a good idea for Mass Effect but a less good idea for Fallout.

Because why use VATS when you can just run and gun just as efficiently?  Like besides times where you were fighting a boss and just wanted to pop out, fire with VATS and then hide, there was really no tactical advantage over run and gun and it's much slower to keep using VATS instead of just pointing and shooting.

Well it didn't help that I thought the world of Fallout 3 was a pretty boring place to explore outside a few bits.  But I'm sure New Vegas will be waaaaaaaay more interesting and actually awesome to explore since it's Obsidian.

Did you play on PC? Because VATS is pretty much a necessity on console due to the free aim being so sensitive

Meh I guess it just comes down to opinion. I thought they nailed the atmosphere, and was rarely bored just wandering around the wastelands and stumbling across abandoned towns and shit. My only complaint was having to trudge through the tunnels in DC. I thought they should have just left the streets open for exploration to keep the pacing more even.

But yeah, I agree that New Vegas looks like it'll be more interesting

I can understand that. Right now I'm so hooked on SC2 that I can't even begin to put a dent in my backlog, and I feel guilty every time I look at all the 360 games I have lying around still in shrink wrap

True, the aiming on consoles sucked. But with the right perks (the one that gives you back all AP if you kill someone) VATS is brilliant. I'm not sure now which version I will get for New Vegas

just kidding, PC of course :bow2

If New Vegas hasn't changed much visually from Fallout 3 and will run as well as Fallout 3 does on my Mini 311, PC version for me too, although I hope to have a new desktop by then anyway.  I love that you can even plug a 360 controller in and it will be fully-configured and ready to use.

I used VATS throughout Fallout 3 and if they make regular shooting feel better, I'd be happy.  For killing bugs or smaller enemies, it did get tiresome to watch the scene play out over and over.  That or a quicker version of VATS would be nice.

I kind of hated it as a shooter.  Then I started playing using VATS exclusively and it suddenly became fun.

I don't like the idea of aiming perfectly in free-aim and you can still miss because the dice roll doesn't go your way.

Free aim in an RPG is stupid anyway.
