It was announced via Sirius Satellite's Liquid Metal that Ronnie James Dio (Black Sabboth, Dio, Heaven and Hell), has passed away on May 15 2010 of stomach cancer. Stay tuned for more official time of death

:( Fuck. Holy Diver was one of my favorite early-80s metal records + his stint with Sabbath was really underrated IMO.

Contrary to published reports, legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio (DIO, HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW) **has not** died after a six-month battle with stomach cancer.

After rumors started circulating via the Internet late Saturday that Dio had lost his cancer fight, BLABBERMOUTH.NET reached out to Ronnie's wife/manager Wendy Dio, who sent back the following message at approximately 11:35 p.m. PST on Saturday, May 15 / 2:35 a.m. EST on Sunday, May 16:

"I am at the hospital and Ronnie has NOT passed away!!!! He is not doing
good, but he is not dead.

"I will let you know if anything changes.

"Thank you for your concern."

RIP

Perfect metal voice imo. Heaven and Hell is a great album. I haven't heard much of his solo/Rainbow stuff (in terms of full albums) but what I have heard is nice. Anyone listen to the album he released a couple years ago with former Sabbath members?

This should be a Dio music rec thread in tribute. I haven't listened to much of his solo stuff. Where do I start?

Jack Black must be pretty depressed right now.  He's a huge Dio fan.

I was lucky to grow up listening to an awesome rock station. They played lots of nu-metal around the time I got into rock, but they also played a shit ton of classic rock, and had a program called Midnight Metal which introduced me to real metal. I had heard Ozzy and loved all the early Sabbath stuff, but hearing Dio blew me away. A melodic voice that could turn menacing at the drop of a dime, all while being smooth as hell.

If I made a list of my favorite rock/metal sings, Robert Plant, Dio, and Chris Cornell would top it.
