The new cole in infamous 2 looks bad but it isn't like I liked how he looked in the first game.  The first game was ugly in most aspects.  The only nice looking parts were the comic style cutscenes, and if anything, the cover not in that style is more of an issue than how he looks.  But the actual game parts of Infamous didn't look like that at all.

Gabe Newell: The original Half-Life took us two years to develop. With a considerably larger team Half-Life 2 took us six years to develop, so we thought if we were going to continue our trend with Half-Life 3 we would basically ship after we had all retired.

We're trying to come up with a better way of getting more timely updates to our customers and also come up with something that didn't have the complexities. Projects increased logarithmically with how much we tried to do, so if you tried to put twice as much content or technology into a box it ends up taking you four times the amount of work, right, and so we're trying to figure out a better solution.

We left Half-Life 2 on a cliffhanger with the Citadel blowing up, Alyx is a couple of feet away from the explosion, so what's going to happen? People were pretty clear that they didn't want to have to wait as long as they had previously to find out what happened.

Eurogamer: So far you've announced three episodes - is that all? Any more planned beyond that?

Gabe Newell: There are three that are in this arc. There are three that are worked out, and those are the ones that we've been talking about so far.

episode 2 left a lot unexplained so I don't think they're going to do that, since it would be a pretty awkward spot to start the game.

Plus, this is valve.  They take 2 years to make 4 hours of gameplay.  There's no way they're going to make HL3 in time for any hardware currently being manufactured.

I'm thinking that originally, the game was to be an Episode 3, using Source... but the game took so long in development, and Source engine has run its course... that the team wanted to upgrade to an all new engine. And, since the game would be running on a new engine, they decided to go the extra step and extend what they had into a complete HL3.

I think a broken ass city could be cool considering Motorstorm gameplay.  Maybe instead of water/mud for where bigger cars have an advantage, it will be a group of people you need to plow through!...hopefully it is only one location.


for Half Life 3, or the next time they change the core gameplay in a more meaningful way (other than making sprint and flashlight separate), I hope they have more enemies that stagger more where location matters.  I'm in the process of replaying all of the HL2 games and while the combat is intense, I wish that I could could do stuff like you see in movies where you shoot their legs to stagger them and things like that.  I'm also hoping that they have a shift similar for HL2 to HL3 as HL1 to HL2.  They probably do need an episode 3 to wrap up the current arc, but I'm talking about when it's done and they have more freedom.
