If this is the final price, then Microsoft will need a day 1 killer app to sell this thing.

(p.s their source is the same guy who gave them the GeOW3 info that turned out to be spot on)

That's crazy!
Way to expensive.

I thought I heard they were trying to get the thing closer to $50.

Quote
Natal will launch in the US this October with a price tag of $149.

That’s according to a trusted source, who told us that the motion sensing camera will also be bundled with the Xbox 360 Arcade console for $299.

We were informed that prices outside of the US would be determined based on a number of factors, including exchange rates. Based on current rates, the standalone unit would retail for £103 / €121, and the console and Natal bundle for £207 / €243.

The figure for the standalone unit is significantly higher than a previous sub-£50 estimate, but less than pricing recently suggested by European retailers. It’s also more expensive than Sony’s Natal rival Move, which will be available later this year with a game for less than $100.

Our source said that the device has been pencilled in for an October 26 worldwide launch, although we were advised that the date could yet shift by a few weeks either way.

We were also told Microsoft’s camera definitely won’t be called Natal and that its proper title will be revealed at E3 next month. It will also be heavily targeted at causal players and families.

“Microsoft expects to sell millions and millions of Natal units in its first year on the market so you can expect the software launch line-up to target non-traditional gamers,” our source said. “A major marketing campaign will also play a key role in attracting and educating the expanded audience about Xbox 360’s controller-free revolution.”

When contacted about this report, Microsoft told us that it "does not comment on rumour or speculation”.

Edge was right about Gears of War 3...so bend over xbots >:(

I think that this Arcade will be "360 slim" together with some USB stick probably.
Name will be probably changed too..."Netal" release = 360  :violin

But hey,at least we can speculate about new name. :lol

MS can't do shit.

They are so out of synch with what people want. All they can do is pay to have what others have and people want. From there on, lol.

Look at all dat fresh new I.P, or how their hardware division is a big bunch of failatons. Natal is gonna bomb hard.

No.  Because the MS equivalent to an ipad owner is someone who likes videogames. And someone who likes videogames isn't necessarily going to buy this steam pile for 150.

This motion stuff is officially dead.  Accelerometers, gyros, cameras..worthless wankery.  Even from a financial perspective, the casual games don't really sell on any merits and don't entice people to buy sequels (unless it has Nintendo stamped on the box of course).

I think waggle games have finally died after 4 years.

Natal looks like EyeToy HD, and Eye Toy games suck ass. All of them.
Move is Wii HD, so it has a chance of having good games. Though chances are small.

I just like to have something physical in my hand(s) when I play a game. The technology isn't advanced enough to be 1:1 precise without a peripheral on hand.
All the Netal demo's so far have been laggy and very unresponsive.

The only way Move is priced effectively is if Sony hires someone to make a smart decision.

So it's not happening.

The chances of Move having good games isn't small, it's quite large actually.

The problem is we're not seeing the controller's capabilities (the 1:1 stuff and glowing ball) being used effectively.

Hopefully Sony will show something special at E3.

Move will bomb too. Nobody wants to play Wii ports with glowing dildos.

Hopefully, we'll get back to the business of making REAL games within a year. Let Nintendo have the non-gaming market, they are quite good at not making games.

one of the big reasons everybody ignores why Nintendo is eating up the entire casual market, its cheaper then the other guys.  The games are cheaper, the system is cheaper (and comes with a game out of the box).

As long as there's a lower priced alternative that does in the eyes of many people, exactly the same damned thing, I don't see why Move or Natal should catch on.

I don't know whether this or Move will be worse.  From what I can tell, Natal is going to have entirely different games that require body flailing while Move is going to be be an optional method for future Sony games plus have that shovelware.  And I still don't get why they thing this would counter Nintendo when most of the big Wii games hardly have motion controls.

I think the bundle pricing and the standalone pricing pretty much cements the fact that Microsoft doesn't care if their existing userbase buys the thing or not.

they probably wouldn't use it for the main game.  That one power pros game for the Wii has waggle hitting and is kept for things like home run derby.  The main baseball career is all regular controls.
