Dled and played the Rocket Knight demo from psn and.......
I really liked that demo. Which shocked me.
Half the time when developers pick up old series again to revive them, they fail flat on their faces because they don't utilize what made the original games great. Based off of video footage of the the new Rocket Knight game, I was gonna throw the new RK under the same bus, but the demo kinda stopped me in my tracks.
First off, the original Rocket Knight Adventures is, in my opinion, the king of action platformers. There's RKA and Mega Man games and then there's everyone else. What made the original RKA great was the sheer variety in terms of levels and fast paced action. It wasn't overly difficult, but man it was tight.
I think what I played of the demo impressed me enough that it definitely feels like a sequel to RKA and Sparkster. The first half of the first level is pretty tame and pedestrian, but it gets really fun from there and I was disappointed when the demo ended. Consider it bought.
Oh, and it's such a beautiful game too. Animations are fab, colors are bright. Controls are spot on and perfect, they really streamlined Sparkster's rocket boost controls. I don't think the full game will be on par with RKA but I think anyone who remotely likes RKA or its sequel Sparkster should give the demo a shot. You may be surprised.
