It's been 4 yrs since VF5 was released.  Why don't they just make VF6 instead?  Of all the things to copy from Capcom, Sega chose this...  :duh

I love how it's supposed to be this uber-complicated game where everyone has to memorize a billion split-second command inputs for every situation....and they still have the 'wiggle joystick' animation to remind you how to break out of a stagger animation or whatever. It's like a dictionary defining the word 'tree'. I know what a fucking tree is! Tell me something DIFFICULT.

AM2 loves perfecting releases. Heck, Evolution came out years after VF4. AM2 is a group of perfectionists. They don't move on to the next entry until the current version is perfectly balanced, resulting in the ultimate fighting game.

Every competitive game worth a shit gets revisions to address balancing. Try as they might, the developers simply cannot tune everything perfectly on their first try. They rely on the community to really break down the game and find all the imbalances and from there work on their next version. If they were to make VF6, it would need to play completely different from VF5, and then they're back to square one.

Anyway, I just want two things out of a console port. A return of the VF4 Evo style training mode and a far more robust online mode. VF5 played really well online but it was as barebones as possible.

THIS THIS THIS A THOUSAND TIMES THIS.

VF4 Evo's training mode is the king. VF5's was a complete step back in every regard. It amazes me how VF4 EVO's training mode is not a genre standard now.

Agreed but 3 iterations in 4 years with minor changes in between?  Fuck that.  Just patch that shit or release it as DLC.

New game or GTFO.  Tech moves way too fast in 4 years for me to still be impressed enough with VF5 to buy it a 3rd time.

Aren't there a lot of changes between balance and all that in VF5 vanilla, VF5 R, and Final Showdown? I wouldn't call the tweaks minor, and this isn't counting the new character and returning characters. That said, I generally agree, but the whole point is an arcade release first and foremost. Blame the emphasis on arcade scene in Japan if anything else but that's partly why VF is so high quality.

I don't know what to say then. It hardly sucks, though. It's not as balanced as the best fighting game of all time, VF4 Evolution, but it sure as fuck is far above and beyond any other fighting game this gen aside from SSF4.

I don't see how someone can be a fan of VF and think VF5 sucks. It's a dissonance in my head.

I'll be playing some VF4EVO later today. Hopefully this gets a console release and the online play isn't useless because none of my friends care for it. :'(

you only 'beat' a fighting game by owning everyone so hard that none of your friends want to play with you anymore.

VF1/2 are different than 4/5.  3 is it's own little island between them.  imo, vf4 evo is the best ever.

That said, I think someone is confusing virtua fighter for tekken.

VF4 won't change your opinion then.

It's the same thing.

It's all about multiplayer. That said, VF5's single player mode owns as does VF4 and VF4 EVO's.

In the same boat. VF5 online was the funnest I had with a fighting game this gen but I couldn't make use of it because my lag was horrible.

PS3 version. /suicide.

Haven't played it in forever so my Goh is probably dog shit again. :-\ Amazing how I completely forget how to play him if I step away from the game for more than a couple of months.

edit: and my ps3 is broken so I can't play VF5 at all. :(

Oh well, back to EVO training mode. :bow2

Did the first PS2 release of VF4 have kumite/quest mode? anyway, that is probably the best single player mode for a fighting game.

Yeah. VF4 OG had kumite. VF4 EVO had a more evolved version though, and you could square off against Japan player ai and shit.

Only bad thing about VF4 EVO? No robot announcer. It's awesome when you boot up the game, get to the start screen and hear some chick say VIRTUA FAITAH FOU and this awesome music plays.

It still has a great single player mode. Put it on like hardest difficulty, and then fight out like 1 billion M. Bison's at once. It owns.

I just got back from a trip to Japan and nooooobody was playing VF5 anymore. It's all Tekken :(

Then again I have to admit that T5 and T6 are both pretty badass and are certainly more fun to play than VF5, plus the character designs are super badass  >:(

VF's characters got boring after VF3. Except for Brad.

Fun fact, I wrote all of Brad's VF5 lines because a friend of mine was doing the localization for it. I don't know who was actually directing it because "MIGHT MAKES RIGHT" sounds like "I MAKE FRIIIIES"

I disagree.  Leifei is great arrogant monk design, Eileen the cat is super awesome and cute (game needed a cute character because Pai is kinda lame and Aoi is like Yamato Nadeshiko design).  EL BLAZE is the freaking man.  Goh is really badass scary.

The only characters designs I dislike are Vanessa and maybe Brad (who is really great to play as, but he's kind of generic looking) and I'm unsure about Jean so far since I haven't played as him.

You wrote the Brad Show line??  Awesome, that stuff has become videogame classic.

Nobody was playing VF5 before you left too, haha.

Tekken 6 just obliterated Virtua Fighter.  But it depends on where you go.  I've been to arcades where nobody was playing BlazBlue Contiunuum Shift and were still playing GGXX Accent Core instead.  Gundam Vs. and Tekken pretty much own everything though.

Street Fighter IV was semi-dead but it was understandable with SSF4 right about to be released.  But then that game was never at the top of the charts.
