I still have a PS2, whereas I don't have a PSP anymore. Its one thing to have a console that actually has good games on it vs one that just sits, collects dust and is portable!

I'll probably get the PSP's for my birthday cause i'm a MGS whore :(

yeah, they can be had for pretty cheap these days.  But this and persona 3 portable are the only interesting looking games this year.  Maybe e3 will bring some news.

To clarify, it's the Euro version that's "out" and apparently fully-working.  The USA version still needs some work.  I am downloading a clean ISO and will patch it myself; people say this is working, but then someone else said it ends up freezing on mission 9.

I'm getting the game myself next week too.  It's only costing me twenty bucks!

I'm seeing different things.  Some say it's the U.S. version that freezes.  Others say the Euro version has problems.  I don't know who is using what CFW and what settings they have/if they're full of shit so I'm going to just start with the U.S. version, patch it, and try it myself.  If it freezes up I'll try the Euro version.

This being a huge, hyped game, I'm sure it will all be sorted out soon anyway.

I grabbed the euro version, am on Gen-D3, and used that Time Machine program before I booted the game.  I got past the first mission and first freezing point.  As usual, shit came up, so my plans to play a lot of the game today are blown.  I'll get to play more this evening, but so far, so good.

I downloaded a supposed USA version (I am skeptical), patched it with ISO Tool 1.52, and it hasn't locked up on me yet.  The J version would freeze after the first set of cut scenes; is that the same place you're talking about?

people were saying the first tape conversation you hear, right after kaz tells snake about the very first walkman, was where the game freezes.

Right after the first mission is over?  I think I am on that conversation now.

No, didn't hear anything about a Walkman.  It passed that scene and I'm on the Motherbase menu now.

I played back the Walkman conversation in the briefing files.  It was fine then froze on the mission menu.

So why not just skip it?

maybe it wasn't a walkman, but a cassette player?  I don't know.  It follows the conversation about paz and someone else being held hostage.

Well, in the briefing files there is a conversation you can have with Kaz about the Walkman.  Completely optional.  When I listened to it, it locked up after the game returned back to the menu.  I rebooted and just went on to mission 2.  Just beat that.

It locked up on the mission select screen again.  Seems like it locks up, you reboot and can go on, play a mission, and it locks up again.   :lol

Going to try the "patched for all CFW" Euro version now.

I kinda wish Kojima had made this for a home system instead.  The controls felt really gimped when I was playing the demo.  It looks great though for a PSP game and I probably shouldn't complain too much about freeware.

I was gonna post a link, but it seems like the Big Boss bundle and the limited edition of the game were both taken down from Gamestop's website.  Guess those games are actually limited after all.

I'm thinking of getting some component-out cables for this...but I have a feeling it'll look like serious ass blown up on my 42" plasma :\

Yeah.

I'd assume that's because further blowing up 480x272 on a large screen would look even worse.

amazing game so far.  Took them a long time to make MGS4, but it was worth the wait.

Does ad-hoc party work with ripped games/gen-D3?  I don't wanna open my LE copy! (I would check, but my PS3 is in shipping...)

- why are the left and right button inverted? this is throwing me for a loop
- wow this soldier got knocked for like 3 seconds (by the way is it normal or is it just because i keep pushing him for ammo?)
- knocking people down is now so easy,it doesn't even feel like i'm sneaking around
- ehy it gots RPG elements to it! nice!
- you mean i can capture soldiers? OMG I'M GOING TO CATCH EVERY SOLDIERMON! GAME OF THE FOREVER!

yeah, every time you tap them for items, it takes a star off their head.  they only give up two items.  But you can keep waking them up and stunning them, which might be a good (and boring as fuck) way to level up the stun gun.

Soldiermons ftw.

Leveling up weapons gives more damage or more ammo or both.
Ranking up weapons really increases damage.

Doesn't matter which soldiermons you have.  All that matters is that stats and skills.  You can look at that with the analyzer.

i tought soldiermon were unique to missions but i seems to understand that they are just random... i would have prefered the former since it would have lead to 100% capturing or stuff like that,it's just like... MUST... CAPTURE... EVERYONE

They're not totally random.  The wiki will tell you exactly which soldiers to get on which missions to get S/A/B rank soldiers and get your squad levels up.
I never used the wiki so I barely got any S/A/B rank soldiers :(
Also never got any monster hunter missions because they are so hidden you have to use the wiki to find them :X

 :lol welcome to MGS

and the upgrade might seem minor but it'll keep upgrading and you'll have like 15.  Plus you don't really need more than 10 per mission usually.  Most missions barely have 10 enemies in them!  Plus once you start getting your squads full you'll start analyzing and only taking guys with good stats because if you just fulton everyone you spend a lot of time yelling YOUR FIRED as you get rid of them.
