anyone see the footage? supposedly it looks like dead space and is set underground.

sucks that they're pissing away the awesomeness of guerrilla but i guess that is to be expected since it didn't sell.  :-\

So it's a sequel to Guerilla then, that's cool.

I want:

- References to Alec Mason
- References to Parker and the original Red Faction, and Ultor

And I'll be ok

I like it.  I'd give them credit for making something different than just a cookie cutter sequel.
It seems like it'll be a mix of the old RF games crossed with the AWESOME DESTRUCTION, MECHS, and 3rd person action from Guerilla + ALIENS.

Man, Guerilla quality mechs vs. aliens will finally make the playable power loader dreams come true.

I'm on board.

Interesting. As mentioned it looks like Alien or Dead Space which is a fine theme for a game but very different from that last one.

Nothing especially interesting in that trailer for me but I'm sure as more details come out I will be more interested.

Looks like they're using the nanoforge to build stuff; maybe they're going the opposite direction to destruction?

I'm on board; Volition hasn't made a disappointing game in a long while.

http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Red-Faction-Armageddon-Features-Announced-25017.html

Quote
RF:A stars Darius Mason, grandson of Guerrilla protagonist Alec Mason. After Mars' Terraformer breaks down and turns the surface into a wasteland, Mason becomes a miner/scavenger. He makes forays to the planet's blighted surface on behalf of the colonists who now live in underground mines. On one trip to an abandoned Marauder temple, he accidentally releases a "long-dormant evil" - those creepy aliens from the trailer - which threaten the surviving humans.

Armageddon will hit the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC in March 2011. A list of gameplay features is below.

        * Hell on Mars - Darius Mason can only watch as the surface of Mars is destroyed. Seeking solace underground, an even greater threat emerges against humanity.
        * Nano Forge - Unleash the devastating force of the Nano Forge with concussive blasts, core-shattering tremblers, and bone-crushing rhino charges.
        * Extermination Mode - Four players can team up online to battle back the relentless tide of attackers as the mysteries of the ancient threat continue to unfold.
        * Full Destruction - Tear down separatist outposts, rip apart alien monoliths, and reconstruct colonist defenses with Geo Mod 2.0, the most advanced real-time destruction engine to date.
        * Fight for Survival - Free colonists from alien cocoons, reclaim cultist fortifications on the surface, and hunt for artifacts deep within alien hives to create unthinkable advanced weaponry.

I can only wonder if landscape destruction will be part of the multiplayer experience. Apparently it is pretty hard to synchronize across discrete instances.

i think it looks good so far. the magnet gun will be a lot of fun to use and the way player can use the nano forge to recreate objects will be cool. can't wait to trap enemies inside of boxes and then use the magnet gun to slam em into an exploding object.

I'm glad they went a different route; Guerrilla's open world shit, as cool as it is at first, gets to be TOO MUCH very quickly, or at least, it becomes extremely repetitive.  I would absolutely not buy another game of that, even if added variety remedied a lot of the repetition.  This however, I am at least tempted by.

The third-person view in Guerrilla seemed like it was more to accommodate the open-world nature of the game, so it seems kind of odd that they aren't going back to a first-person view now that the game is more linear like the first two games.

Yeah I kinda thought the same thing although I couldn't articulate the reason why in my head. But yeah the 3rd person perspective looks kinda weird in that video to me.

The camera is too close to his back.

I was going to say it's probably tied to movement/aiming, but there's not a heap of difference between the two cameras.  ???

I am tempted to just buy this because Guerilla was awesome, and you get the XBLA game for free for pre-ordering.

Me playing the last RF game:

"YOU MUST RESCUE BOB FROM THE ZORLAX TROOPS"
"OK LET ME BORROW THIS TANK"
(Jumps tank off mountain, plows into 3rd story of enemy base, annihilating everything)

:lol

Yeah, that's good.

The moment of realization that RF:G was not like other sandbox games came when I marched into a building and climbed up the stairs to get to the objective, and the surrounding troops all shot it out from under me. I watched as the building literally fell apart around me, and the engine tried to keep adjusting my character for what he was standing on. Which was falling.

...

Now I want to go back and play that some more.  :-\

I don't know. I don't think is an especially good demo. Not sure if its because I don't think its very good or because it feels completely different than the last game or because it doesn't show the variety in gameplay that the last one had.

This one feels like a poor man's dead space. The destruction element is there but it seems like not as integral or strategic from the small slice of the demo. The world is very small in this demo.

Guerilla was one of the very few sandbox games I actually liked as a sandbox game. I'm not sure going the Dead Space route has done them any favors. Especially since their story and voice acting is poop in comparison.

That being said it is a very short limited demo. I'd be a little worried though if they thought this was some cool shit to show off.

This game is pretty disorienting to play because of how close the camera is to your large character's back.  It doesn't help that enemies are jumping all over the place.  It doesn't lend itself to the function of the magnet gun where you need to look for pieces of environment to toss at enemies.  but the demo was alright.

Guerrilla was fucking awesome.  Probably one of the few open world games I could stand to play for more than 10 minutes.

Seems like they tried to chase Dead Space and that was a wrong call. The smarter idea would have been to fix and improve upon the Guerilla concept.

Eurogamer review is depressing. Sounds like TDU2, awesome first game that they move away from in the second one.
