Visited my frat house today
« on: August 09, 2006, 10:00:37 AM »
So this morning I had to go to the frat house and scout out things, as well as wait on DTE Energy and some carpet measuring people to show up. For those of you who don't know, my dad bought a frat house on the campus of the school I'll be attending in the fall (EMU). It has five rooms, as they plan on renting out 4 while giving me one.

The house is pretty big on the inside. 4 of the rooms are decently sized regular rooms, and there's this one big room on the second floor which will be mine. Three bathrooms. Overall it's just a nice house. Not snappy and beautiiful, but it's more than enough for some dudes who are going to college.

All 5 rooms are internet (wifi) and cable ready, which rocks.

Outside there's a rock garden, so there isn't a lot of grass to cut. And it's right near the bus station too. Hella nice.

Eastern Michigan. I'm going to transfer to U of M after a couple semesters at EMU. I wanted to go to U of M instead of EMU, but they would only accept me as a freshmen. I wanted to transfer as a junior. I'm 19 btw.

EMU is a good school too. No shame in staying there (and saving your parents some money).

Yeah, it's a good school. It doesn't have a law school though, and considering I want to be a true liberal, I need to go to a law school. That's where U of M comes in.

Correction: CHEAP beer, gang rape from dudes in the basement, homoerotic escapades, and an obsession with Goldeneye or Halo.

I crashed enough frat parties in my days at OU that I know how that shit turns out. Frats are gayer than an entire community full of olimarios.

Now the art and drama folks: THEY know how to throw a party. All the drugs and absinthe your poor little minds can handle and OMG THE CHICKS.

I did rush my first year and got accepted, but I chickened out after the same frat I applied for pulled a flagpole down on top of one of its members during a rush party, killing him.

Well my parents thought it would be cheaper to do this than getting a dorm. Plus, dorms are small and they don't guarentee internet/cable access. My room in this place is bigger than my room at home! Upgrade total. How many people can say that their first room in college was an upgrade over their room at home?

Dude, I went to the parties, and all I saw was dudes primpin' in their clothes like chicks, commenting on each others' hair, and touching each others' asses. When I saw two dudes make out, I realized that masculinity and fraternities are two worlds apart. FAR apart.

I don't see the point of wanting to graduate so early, especially to go to Law school... but, you actually got accepted, or are you still waiting?

Most frats are rife with homosexuals.

Also, graduating early is an advantage. If I can enter law school when I 20, then I'm ahead of the game. That means less time in school. My dad spent years in school, then doing his residency, etc. It worked out in the end, but I'd rather get where I want to go at a younger age.

The program I was in in HS helped. I'm 19 and I already have more than 90 college credits.

I lived in a co-ed dorm for the first two years, it's nothing that speical.  When you live in the house it's the same thing...nothing that special.  Except people try to suck your dick around campus so you can get into the party without a ratio..."Oh shit Chris Rizzo!11 I know him!" You don't know how many times I heard this, esp when I was checking door.

You should have applied to Wayne too... they were having on site Admissions last week. It would have been no more than a one hour drive for you. I'm still waiting to hear from both. If I don't get in for the Winter 2007 semester, I'm just going to transfer to State as a sophmore... that way I can actually take my car.

I'm not some scenester who hates on frats wholesale.

I recognize frat parties as a source of cheap beer and slutty freshmen girls, and respect you guys for throwing parties.  I am friends with brothers, and have no problems with the vast majority of them.  What I hate is the mob mentality that happens when you have so many dudes in one place.  When I'm at a party it always seems they are one step away from teaming up on someone and starting a fight.  I also hate the elders of frats who are on power trips, and will do lame shit like make people tell jokes to get beers at parties. The "bro"-ness that many people are describing here doesn't bother me at all.

Being at a frat once a week, or every other week is fun, but actually living in the frat house would suck.
