His last few albums certainly aren't the best output of his career although Musicology was well reviewed and won some awards. But prince has never been especially consistent with albums. He fucks around a lot and for every "good" album there are middling ones with only a few good to great songs on them. That being said when you have a music career that generally spans decades you have your ups and downs. As with any artist. Also still an amazing live performer. One of the best around in fact.

One of my greatest musical memories was seeing him play in Dublin the summer after (Irish) Sinead O'Connor had a number 1 hit with his 'Nothing Compares 2U'.

He of course did that song, and absolutely DESTROYED her version to the point where I never wanted to hear it again. I think he was pissed.

OK guys I was never a Prince fan but I'd like some recommendations.

Then just buy or download one of the many greatest hits compilations out there. Nothing wrong with that. The Hits 1/The Hits 2/ The B-Sides is still a pretty great compilation for most of his career even though it came out years ago.

If you're the type who must own individual albums for some reason then
