I heard Texas and Texas A&M are joining the Big Ten. If that's true...holy shit. Texas would dominate the conference for years
The big theory is that they are joining the Pac 10 with Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech now. Evidently the Pac 10 wants to have 16 teams and a conference tournament next season. The Big Ten can now have a conference tournament.
By the way, for playoff enthusiasts, a playoff is much more likely with less conferences down the road. The leftovers of the Big 12 will probably join the Mountain West (along with Boise State) and we might see a TCU, BYU, Utah, or Boise State in the big game at the end of the season even in a BCS run system.
GOD IT'S FUCKING CRAZY.
So we are looking at:
- the Pac 16
- the Big Ten (which has twelve teams and a conference tournament)
- NO Big 12
- A Mountain West with a conference championship and with Boise State probably playing against BYU, TCU, and Utah every season
- and MAYBE down the road no Big East as the SEC and ACC scramble to try to recover by stealing all of their teams. Also: early rumors that the SEC could go after several ACC teams such as Florida State and Georgia Tech.
But then again, there are MANY theories going around right now. Texas A&M is also interested in joining the SEC.
Right now, Kansas is pretty concerned that their elite top five basketball team (up there with UNC, Duke, Kentucky and Michigan State) will probably fall flat on it's fucking face to it being in a lesser basketball conference due to this bullshit. Anyone remember the last time a Mountain West team was a basketball powerhouse? Maybe fucking Utah, but losing to Kentucky a shitload in the playoffs and the championship games isn't really my definition of a powerhouse.
