I wasn't a fan of Black last gen so I don't really understood all the attention Stuart Black gets so I'm highly skeptical of Bodycount also. Doesn't help that the game looks quite generic.

They will stop once the sales stop. If the sales don't stop then they won't. No different than the glut of platformers, or fighting games, or any other popular genre from back in the day. Devs are copycats and they copycat what is popular and what is selling.

As long there is a market for that,it won't stop...

And judging by the popularity of FPS games...it will not stop...ever

I see them evolving into FPS/RPG hybrids since people like leveling up,customization,etc

This.

They will branch into different genres because that's the only way to stand out in a crowded market.


FPS games are currently really popular because they are all action with very little confusing elements or mechanics that make other genres less popular. Also the skill set tends to transfer from game to game. And of course the competitive MP scene is better suited for FPS games than any other genre for the hardcore.

As long as the games are good, I'll never tire of the type it is.  It helps that I don't play all of them.

Bodycount looks bad.  The only thing interesting happening in the trailer is that everything seems to get destroyed by bullets (instead of explosives and hammers).  Other than that, it looks like poop, and I liked Black (except for the bullet sponge enemies).

I hardly ever play FPS.  Maybe 1 or 2 a year max, and those are FPS rpgs like Fallout NV or Bioshock.  So I'm not burnt out on the genre yet.
