Maybe I'm being distinguished mentally-challenged, but I'm expecting a good show from Sony.....as long as they don't put too much focus on Move that is.  They could definitely destroy both MS and Nintendo's conferences game wise if they choose to go that direction.

And interesting certainly doesn't mean re-bundling old PS 2 games to me.

It won't take much for Sony to 1up Microsoft's conference: pretty good year for Ps3, good upcoming games, and it indeed looks like the Ps3 will overtake the 360 by years end.

As for beating Nintendo, a simple smiley will suffice:  :teehee

I'm sorry, but you're out of your mind if you think Nintendo's conference was on the same level of fail as Microsoft's.

Natal had soo much potential, and man, Microsoft dropped the ball hard.

Where was Milo? Why didn't they show Fable 3 using Kinect? What happened to the ability to scan objects and use them in games? Where were the hardcore games for Natal? Why does every launch game look like a bad 3rd party Wii game?

The Xbox brand is synonymous with the term "hardcore gaming", and Microsoft's attempt to shave that off with Kinect will lead to 2 significant things happening:

1- They're going to lose the hardcore market to Ps3.

2- They're going to lose whatever remaining percent of casual gamers to Wii.

=============================================================================

IF (and that's a big IF) Sony can show Move working well with hardcore games, Microsoft are fucked.

They showed the 3DS and it has some great support.

The Wii was underhwelming. New Zelda looked boring. Epic Fail Mickey looked like shit and Kirby Wii looked like a low budget flash game. The new Donkey Kong Game looked great, though.

I want to see Infamous 2. Some straight up blizzard and stormy seas KZ3 would be neat too, it's been a good day for shooters so that would seal it up nicely. But I'm sure it will be mostly Move stuff.

I hope not. I want a handheld that's using current technology. Sony is the only who can do that.

I was kinda hoping that the 3DS was a technical powerhouse. But Nintendo did it again.

Had Kinect been 79.99, they could have marketed it well and it could have been kind of successful. That won't happen.

Move is just fucking stupid and is working with an install base who doesn't give a shit anyways.

The problem with both of them is that I just don't think the general population will ever perceive there to be much difference between either device and the Wii.  It's especially true for Move but also for Kinect as well.  It doesn't fucking matter that there's no controller.  Grandma is still doing the same distinguished mentally-challenged motions she's doing on her Wii as she'd be doing on Move or Kinect.  There's no reason for these people to adopt these things.

WII X-TREME!!!! NOT YOUR MOM'S WAGGLE, MOTHERFUCKER!

Its like trying to get grown men to play with Tonka trucks again.

And that is exactly why Sony has the potential to get hardcore gamers on board.

Move was devised to counter the inevitable Wii HD. What Sony may very well end up doing -and again, this is IF they successfully show Move working well with hardcore games- is snatching up all the Ps3 and 360 gamers who don't give a rats ass about Kinect but WANT motion gaming.

Motion gaming in HD will be established on PlayStation. And THAT is a threat to Nintendo's next console.

Yeah, unless it's on Wii no one else will give a good god damn about motion controllers.  That's the Wii market and neither Sony or MS are offering anything different enough or cheap enough as a viable alternative.  This is a losing battle for both companies.

It's amazing that people can't seem to figure this out.

And that's why Kinect and Move are mysteries to me.

I understand WHY they want to penetrate that market, but they can't!

They established themselves are hardcore machines. How do you expect to show Call of Duty and Gears of War in the same conference as Kinect and expect people to buy in to it?

They don't look at it that way. All they see is the money that Nintendo is making and they want in on it. But neither understand the market. Nor have they cultivated it, which is why neither will be able to take any marketshare from Nintendo. Both items will sell to a niche group. While Nintendo keeps killing with the Wii. Because that is Nintendo's natural audience anyway.

I still maintain that if Sony get this right, they could offer a very appealing alternative to the Wii not primarly among soccer moms, but their husbands. I know of a few dudes who are seriously miffed by the Wii, since it's popular with their wives and friends, and said wives don't think there is a need for two video game systems. Ideally for Sony, Move+PS3 will become the alternative, giving the wives their "karaoke" machine with fun games for the whole family, and the husbands their HD "hardcore" gaming machine+HD movie player.

Of course, getting that right is a tall order for a company that has spent most of the generation performing tactical blunders. It's only since the Slim and the rebranding that things have turned for the better, and I doubt they are going for a flawless streak here.

well, anecdotal here, but a friend who already owns a PS3 and has a little girl is planning on getting one for the family for Christmas

i do think there's a small existing market for it, and it is a safe decision as far as motion bullshit goes - uprezzed wii ports will likely cost companies little, so there'll probably be dozens of those, and they're at least going to make a halfassed attempt to put the functionality into normal games like socom

companies have to make kinect games from the ground up

But how far can a system redesign take them?

It takes a lot more than just redesigning your product to make it a long-term success. If the same creepy Baby ads were still airing, and if the Ps3 was still out of the price range of the average gamer, would the Ps3 Slim be relevant?
