I'm looking at Box Office Mojo right now and TS3 just absolutely killed Shrek 4 and Marmaduke's Friday, both of them actually went DOWN from Thursday.  :lol

I read that Sid made a return in Toy Story 3 (He's the garbage man). How accurate is this?

According to IMDb, he does, although there's nothing to indicate it's him in the movie.

It's more like I loved toys growing up as a kid and I loved that the imagination that I had in playing with them and looking back all of life's problems have kind of squandered it away. I miss being blissfully ignorant to the world around, but not to the point of trying to make that who I am now.

I don't understand how you can say Pixar appeals to 20-50 year old people, seeing as how Toy Story 3 is basically a love letter to the fans that grew up "with" Andy. And I did. With other Pixar films, sure it's different, but TS3 caters to a really specific crowd, I feel. Or maybe that's just me. Whatever. I can't say anything on this board without somebody picking it apart/making it sound stupid and subsequently making fun of it. I'm not sure why I try to defend myself here anymore.

 :lol

What's the point of putting me on ignore if you're gonna keep reading my posts?

$109 million for the weekend, making it the biggest opening weekend for a Pixar movie but falling a bit short of Shrek the Third's biggest opening for an animated movie.

Saw this last night. I thought the 'dark scene' was going to be the end of the film, or I at least gave Pixar the thought that they would have the balls to do that. It's too early for me to judge the film, because it has that after-watch residue of an emotional film that hangs on to you for a day or so.

The exploration of the way humans imprint emotions and lives onto other objects that exists in the Toy Story films and someone like Platonov's writings comes full circle in the film. I find that subject to be interesting. Which makes me, at this point, wonder if the Lotsa plot could have had a bit more depth to it.

Can Pixar make a bad movie?

Even Cars can't be considered a truly BAD movie.

Toy Story 3 was fucking INCREDIBLE. Then again, Up and Wall-E and Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 1 and PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING THEY'VE FUCKING DONE was incredible, so I can't complain. What an amazing film.

Anyone planning a third installment or a concluding installment to a film series needs to watch this movie. There's never been a better send-off. Even films with "good" send-offs pale in comparison to the treatment these characters get. Hands down my favorite film of the year.

I went in with Cheebs' messages fresh in my mind, chuckling to myself and thinking of all the GAFers I'd be trolling in 3 hours. Yet I found myself watering up a bit within minutes of the film starting. The end is so powerful, and done so perfectly, I teared up.

There were some girls behind me in the theater, and they were sniffling throughout the end. As were people ahead of me, to my sides etc. Willco is right, the film is definitely one of the best films about the end of childhood.

Really torn as to whether or not to take my kid to see this.

She loves the first two - we must have watched them 20-plus times on Blu-ray by now. But she's not quite 3 yet and too much sadness would not be good. At home, we can just skip past the scary bits (that baby-head-on-mechanical spider body freaks ME out sometimes!) and the sad bits (Jesse getting shitbinned).

OTOH, my wife is keen on the idea. What do you guys think? Were there any howling children in the audience?

There were some small kids in the back of the theater but I didn't hear them; overall the crowd was dominated by adults, with teens thrown in. The movie is surprisingly dark at times.

Are Japanese kids well-behaved or wild?

Mostly the former, although the real crushing domination process doesn't really kick in until the kid is 11 or so and is basically in school or studing 16hrs a day. Parents like to let them have fun as much as possible before that but people basically just don't get too crazy over here.

It was made years before Wall-E and Up!  It's not very dreamsworksian IMO because it causes you to actually care about the characters throughout the movie.  Dreamworks is black and white good guy vs bad guy.  and the humor is so so so awesome "they're rehearsing a musical" "she's out of our haaaaaaaaaaaaaair"  oh and boo is so adorable.

Dunno. I saw it in 3D and it's definitely not worth the extra money. Glad I didn't have to pay. I tried convincing my mom not to get the tickets but she was like "Avatar looked good in 3D!"  :-\

I'm not saying its bad, but it is certainly hard to go back to that movie after seeing Pixar's latest ventures.  And I don't know man, the one salamander monster is a pretty one dimensional villain.

It's still real good, but I'd say it still falls under my original rating.
