I thought it was pretty good.  Watched it with the wife and kiddo the other day.  Enjoyed it.

eh, so far its pretty dreamworksian.  Also, it has some pretty stale stage direction compared to Wall-E and Up.
It was made years before Wall-E and Up!  It's not very dreamsworksian IMO because it causes you to actually care about the characters throughout the movie.  Dreamworks is black and white good guy vs bad guy.  and the humor is so so so awesome "they're rehearsing a musical" "she's out of our haaaaaaaaaaaaaair"  oh and boo is so adorable.

I'm not saying its bad, but it is certainly hard to go back to that movie after seeing Pixar's latest ventures.  And I don't know man, the one salamander monster is a pretty one dimensional villain.

It's still real good, but I'd say it still falls under my original rating.
:(  This make me a sad panda

Repost from WYL:

Animated short Day and Night was awesome too. I remember watching and realizing Pixar has done what Disney could not: integrate 3D and 2D animation in a way that works WELL together. Which made me feel so proud of Pixar especially having viewed the "Tangled" trailer right before.

The story itself is nothing new but I felt it tied into what they were doing overall very well. The blending of the 2D and 3D seemed to pay homage to the history of animation as well as embracing the new. With that the storyline seemed to fit as it was pretty tried and true "Looney Toon"-ish in nature but I feel they were creative in the way they communicated it.

I love Day and Night.  At our cinema, they were showing classic cartoons and the one we were watching was a bo peep short.  my wife and i were talking about how amazing it was that they got things across with saying so little (or anything at all in some cases).

then the movie started and Day and Night was shown and it was exactly what we were talking about.  It was great.

This movie is really only worth watching with kids.  There was some wholesome fun but after the daycare it didn't really keep my interest.

I have no idea how any part of the film could make an adult emotional though.  It's just stupid how people would try to make any comparison to Up.

well, I'm not heartful.  seriously though, if they wanted that end of childhood stuff to not feel forced than they should have shown it happening to Andy when he was like 11 or 12.  I can't believe that a 17 year old is going to be so attached to a toy.

nintenho: The toy represents memories and a different life than teen/college life. It also represents an ability, to imagine and have fun with objects that are inanimate but for which you supply the story/adventures. The loss of being able to get lost in that world or the distance since you've last done so is a loss of ability. It is not just attachment to a toy. That is one way that I see it.

Only a couple scenes in the movie focused on that and it always felt forced since no 17 year old is going to care that he once had an imagination when playing with inanimate objects.

Up made you care about the main character's sense of adventure because the first 15 minutes was all about how his friendship and relationship with his wife revolved around that.

Tangled was originally a 2D animated feature with 3D hair, cloth, etc. Disney couldn't get a handle on it so they switched it completely to 3D. That's why it's taken so long for it to come out.

I realize that.  It's just a shame that Disney's really lost its touch in innovation and creativity and must resort to making an animated teeny bopper movie instead.  They could have had something great.  Disney keeps saying it's the end of the line for 2D animation but it's not true.  It's the end of the line for 2D animation for Disney.  And in the end it really is their fault.

still woulda ended the movie with andy taking woody to college, andy getting totally crunk his first night there and banging a fat chick on the sofa ... under the cushions of which woody is trapped and mouthing in silent horror: "not like this...it wasn't supposed to be like this"

which would be a MUCH better metaphor for the end of childhood

Was trying to hold out the blu-ray release to watch it, but then I remembered the free tickets from the 1 and 2 blu-rays.  I thought it was pretty great for the most part.

Beginning and end were really good while the middle bits were alright.
spoiler (click to show/hide)
The entire escape part seemed to drag on and while it was creative how they escaped, it felt like I was just waiting for something to happen the entire time.  It didn't help that the daycare part was similar to the prospector in the second one.  It was still entertaining at times and the funniest parts of the movie were Buzz first getting played with and then the spanish Buzz.  But yeah, the beginning and ending were really good.  The ending was cheerful and happy.

But earlier in the movie weren't they complaining about the kid growing up and leaving? this all will repeat in ~13 years.  That was supposed to be one of the benefits of the daycare.  Actually, it's kinda sad that Woody's dream of staying in the attic until Andy has kids was ruined.  That would have been a sweet ending.

As it is now, it feels like Andy was that teddy bear and the toys are replacing him with this new girl.  Andy's emotions at the end were mostly a final burst of nostalgia seeing as how he didn't play with the toys for years.  I mean, at the end before he saw all the toys, he thought his mom threw away all the old toys (except for Woody) and he didn't seem that upset.  I don't even think he looked through the boxes to see if he was mistaken considering he just accepted the fact that all the toys were just in one of them.
[close]

I don't really have number ratings or anything, but it is up there with the pixar films I really liked, so alongside the first two Toy Story movies.

Don't kid yourself. When you're older you'll realize just how immature college students are. A bunch of young people getting their first taste of freedom with very few actual responsibilities in life.
