This is the shit I'm talking about in that thread. Not that the Japanese don't cater to western audiences, but every time there's discussion on anything remotely Japanese related, people have a holier-than-thou "I'm better than this", lol weeaboo's anti-Japanese thing going on.

And that's fine.

But it's like every. single. thread.

How the fuck did anyone get east vs west sentiment from my thread? It's mostly the whole "let's trash everything japanese for no reason!" i was talking about.

Did you read past the first reply?  A majority of the posts in this thread not made by demi have positive sentiment.

And that's because it's distinctly lacking in uguu~.  Compare and contrast with the DeathSmiles thread.

Looks too kiddie.

Yeah, this is a more appropriate criticism than "bad character art" or ":uguu"

It looks like a game for little kids and that might not be every 30+ year old gamer's cup of tea.

The main character is a little on the plain side of things but the little mole with a lantern nose piercing and the horned thing looks like pokemon with downs. Other than that I'd say it is easy on the eye.

Naw, that's stock cell shading. The environments are real nice handpainted textures, probably just a flat diffuse texture with no real shaders on them. You can get a nice look through doing that (see Borderlands, which is mostly diffuse)

That said, the character designs are shitshitshitshitshitshitshitshit

I was with you until this point.

Smh, people really have no fucking clue what makes good character design stand out from bad character design.

???

I think they're bland. Ghibli is usually the opposite of bland when it comes to character designs, but oh well, it still looks fab despite that so it's really a nitpick with the visual side of things more than anything else.

Uhhh try watching Castle of Cagliostro and My Neighbor Totoro. Porco Rosso, Whisper of the Heart, and the Cat Returns would be good too.

Everyone acts like Castle of Cagliostro DOESN'T EXIST but is in fact the best Ghibli movie, and Miyazaki's directorial debut. It is a fast paced action-adventure that transcends godliness.

Cagliostro isn't Ghibli.

So you watched 3 movies about animals and one about humans & folklore monsters that you actually liked.

I think you should watch Whispers of the Heart, I Can Hear the Ocean (not Miyazaki), and Cagliostro/Grave of the Fireflies (Grave = not Miyazaki).

Then you should watch Nausicaa & Laputa because they are THE BEST JRPGS EVER

Grave of the Fireflies is godlike. That's my favorite non-Evangelion anime movie. I still haven't seen some of Ghibli's movies though... too lazy.
