I love Shaun of the Dead. One of my top ten movies ever.

So I had crazy high expectations for Hot Fuzz, right? Saw it in the theater on opening night and... I was sorely disappointed.

And then I saw it again on HBO and, expectations appropriately lowered, I really liked it!

What I'm trying to say is: if I had a Blu Ray player, I'd get the movie. It's no Shaun of the Dead but it's good in it's own right.

Yes exactly.  The pacing is just extremely different slowly building up to the last 30 minutes or so.  Shaun of the Dead is just all out hilarious start to end.
