The two episodes didn't really blow me away, but they were still pretty funny in spots and it was nice seeing the show back in the proper format.

I'm waiting to see what the consensus is.  I liked Family Guy a lot more before it went off the air and I'm scared this will be the same thing.  The fact that you said it feels hollow deepens my concerns.

the show is way too topical now, the lack thereof was one of the things that defined futurama and made it unique

I have downloaded and watched the first three episodes after reading this thread and I am happy that I did, it is very entertaining to say the least. I will continue following it this season.

I was kinda surprised that the first 2 episodes seemed on par with the initial four seasons, hope it keeps up. Never noticed much in the way of topical humor but maybe i'll catch it on rewatch.
