Not me. Going from DQVIII to IX is a huge downgrade thanks to the shitty DS hardware. Not going to waste my time with this.

No, DQ8, the only DQ I've ever played, was boring and tedious.  I'll still give it a try since there isn't much to play on DS but my expectations aren't high.

Ehh I tried to play the DQ remakes on the DS and I almost died of boredom. And DQIX looks like those messes. So yep, 100% avoiding this.

And I loved DQVIII. Such a shame they had to use 90' hardware for DQIX. Oh well..

May pirate it, I enjoyed DQ8 even with its archaic battle system and random encounters bullshit, but I'm not sure if I want to sink in another 100 hours on another jrpg especially one with ugly ds graphics.

I'd rather the game be on psp.

But you don't see me complaining. Complaining about graphics in games is stupid unless it gives yo seizures. I've never really seen the big deal. Some games are beautiful, some are ugly, most are in between. I care more about art direction than graphics. When you're playing a good game, graphics are the last thing on your mind, and you forget the game has good or average or bad graphics just a few minutes in.

It's nice to want things but making more than one post on a game's graphics not being for you is a fool's errand. In the end, it doesn't really matter, and this is why I can go back to 8-bit, 16-bit and 32-bit games with ease.

Who gives a fuck.

Can we ban Third from this thread and discuss the game part?

DQ9 is not as long as DQ7 or 8. It's pretty standard DQ size-wise. 40-50.

Depends.

The main game is pretty short.  ~30 hours or less.

The post game is like infinite grind game with tons of optional bosses and you gotta get strong enough to fight them.

And the battles are shorter than VIII.

Stop playing games and kill yourself.

Not only better graphics. But better sound as well. Better controls probably too.
The whole presentation would've been much better if the game would be released on a more capable console.
From what I've seen, DQIX looks worse than a Ps1 game.

But oh well. I guess people are too easily pleased nowadays.

Job system is the worst ever in a DQ.  It's based on DQIII.  DQVI and I'd guess VII's job system is similar but a lot better.  In DQIX you drop to level 1 when you change jobs and don't keep any of the spells from your previous job.  It's a total grind job system.

You can beat the entire game without changing jobs once.  I'd actually recommend doing that.  I changed jobs...once total the entire game and regretted it the whole time afterwards.

It's fine or good or great depending on the person.  If you get into the post-game content or multiplayer it can be really cool.  If you just do the main story and don't job change it's an ok rpg that's just kind of ho-hum for a dq game.

I'd just advise to not go crazy and job change a bunch of people when the job change ability opens up.  Last thing you want is to be lvl.30 and then have half your team drop to lvl.1 and have a heck of a time getting people back up to the point where they can actually be useful in battle again.

In DQ3 didn't you basically have the same set of jobs for the whole game? Halfway through you just got improved versions of the standard jobs I think. The Sage was the only truly unique class that you couldn't start the game off with IIRC. Same for DQ9?

out of curiosity i did take a trip on gamefaqs and here's what i discovered
apparently there are skills tree like the one in DQ8,so you have 3 weapon skill tree and 1 speciality skill

for example you know how yangus had club/hammer/axe/humanity? here the warrior job has sword/lance/knife/warrior stuff, the mage job has knife/whip/wand/magic stuff... now job specific skill like heal and fizzle don't transfer but skills that come from the skills tree do transfer which is usefull since i seems to understand that a tons of these skills are just stat boosts,it seems also that if a character master a weapon then he can wield that weapon no matter his job so you can have sword wielding mage even tough it takes a shitload of effort

from reading gamefaqs it seems that switching to a high level class to a low level class once will make your character useless but jack of all trades can get decent since they can get more skill points and therefore more stat boost from the skills tree

apparently you can also reincarnate to get more skill points a-la disgaea

himu - you know how in FFV the most powerfull class is freelancer because he gets monk strenght stat, summoner magic stat and ninja agility stat?

it seems it works in a similiar manner here... the soldier gets a strenght buff when learning soldier skills but that buff gets shared between all the jobs,so if you keep switching jobs, you accumulate tons of buff so you can end up as a decent character if you level up tons of different jobs but a single switch does nothing

at least that's how i think it works :-X

smh @ bebpo

Yeah, because I said something different  ::)

It's not like a standard job system because
Job system in most FFs -> you stay at the same level you were AND keep the spells learned in each job
Job system in DQVI/VII -> you drop to level 1 BUT you keep the spells learned in each job

Normally the idea of a job system is that you switch jobs to get useful spells and then build a character who has all the spells you want.

The main problem with DQIX is not keeping spells from old jobs, and the 2nd main problem is it takes FOREVER to get a lvl.1 character useful again.  I changed jobs with 1 character at mid-game.  I had them in my party with all the rest lvl.30 characters.  They would die in 1 hit at first in every battle and couldn't do any damage, so I had them block and hoped they would survive.  Once they got to about lvl.14 they could survive a few hits but still couldn't do any damage.  This guy used to be one of my main damage dealers, so this whole time I'm down 1 major damage dealer.  It took me until almost the end of the main story for that guy to get near the levels of my other party members and finally become useful.  Was not worth having a gimped team for the entire 2nd half of the game, just so I could have a guy with a better job for the last dungeon or two.  And to unlock the "high class" jobs, you need to level 2 jobs to a certain point, so now repeat those 10-20 hours of getting him from lvl.1 to useful three times and there you have your high class character.

I thought the job system was trash
Aeana thought the job system was trash
duckroll thought the job system was trash

all for precisely these reasons.  The game is trying to be an MMO so it's using an MMO job system that is insanely grind heavy and slow and time consuming and totally not appropriate for a single player 30 hour rpg.

Because I played it before everyone told me the job system was broke!
I figured there must be a point to the job system and when I get this lvl.1 character back to the same level of my party members he will be amazing and it'll be worth it.
I also didn't expect him to level so slowly.  The first 10-15 levels are fast, but then at some point about 10 levels before the rest of your party it takes forever to catch up.  I guess if you want to sit around and grind metal slimes for 5 hours everytime you change a job you'll be efficient.  But that sounds super boring to play.
