Sin and Punishment 2
« on: June 27, 2010, 04:14:14 PM »
Just picked up my copy, and played through stages 0-2... so far it doesn't seem as challenging as the first game but I'm sure that'll pick up. Some of the boss fights are pretty whoa, and the second stage boss already solidifies this as my GOTY. It plays smooth as butter with the Wiimote + Nunchuck. Anybody else get it?

Best game Treasure has ever made.  I know those are big words and I do love my Guardian Heroes & Gradius V, but goddamn S&P2 is mindblowing.  Some of the later stages are absolutely incredible and the boss fights are INTENSE and badass.  I love how the levels are HUGE and each level is like 3 full separate levels combined into one.  Complete with like 3 full size bosses per stage.

I'll either double dip on the US version or replay the JP version one of these days, because the save is locked and I can't move it to my new Wii.  Stupid leaderboards preventing save moving :(

My favorite stages are
Stage 2 boss
Stage 3
Stage 4
Stage 5

I think stage 1 & 6 are the weakest.  But the middle section is so fucking good.

Would give 11/10 if possible.  Best game on Wii.

The game gets pretty hard later.  I honestly recommend for people to start on easy first and then do normal.  Because getting 5 hours into normal and then getting completely stuck and having to start from stage 0 and work your way back on easy is boring.

Man, that Japanese chick on stage 3 is a fucking nightmare... I come sooooo close to beating her but she keeps on kicking my ass. I need to work on the timings of my counters I guess.

And yeah, I'm like "this game is awesome" up till the boss of stage 2... then I get to fight a dolphin and it's like OMG OMG OMG!!!

Yeah I kind of hope this doesn't bomb but it was MEGA bomb in Japan with like 8k sold or something, so I don't think the US/Euro will save it.

It's amazing the game got made in the first place, and I think we should just be happy it exists.  Treasure games don't sell unless they are working under an already established mainstream IP.

the only thing that i remember about the dolphin is that in the end the fucker transform into a bunch of balls and i couldn't shot all the balls off before the time run out so the game was all like "i don't really care about the balls, let's go to the next stage" and i was like ">:("

It's ok. It's a suitable StarFox replacement at least. I'd rather get another StarFox.

I thought since Nintendo AUS started handling distribution for NZ too, things would improve. Were still getting 1st party games MONTHS late too, Nintendo's ineptitude is unbelievable.

The game is really great.  I played it, but my US copy won't be here until Tuesday or Wednesday.  (Nintendo sunday releases :piss2 no shipping on sunday :piss2 )  The wii remote+nunchuck controls are pretty much perfect for this type of game and they still support other control methods if you want to try it.

I wouldn't recommend playing it on easy.  If you ever do plan to play it on normal or hard, you'll just get lazy and gain bad habits.  Normal mode difficulty is tough but fair; easy to conquer assuming you don't give up after a failure or seven.  Haven't tried hard yet.

did you finish it on normal?  I thought the last few stages were really brutal on normal.

I know at least half of the people in the import thread started over on easy just so they could see the rest of the game before trying it again on normal.  I think it's more fun to move your way up because they add things whereas if you play normal and then drop back to easy it's boring because they remove things.  Like for the turtle boss on easy there's no baby turtle on his back for the fire breathing attack.

yeah, I finished it on normal and thought it was really fair.  I thought it was even easier than the first game on easy (I suck at Sin and Punishment N64).  Not to say the game was easy, but I always felt like I know what I did wrong and how to avoid it next time.

The only part that was tense for me was the final boss (first part of it).  what was the wall you hit?

Geez, Ariana (stage 4 boss - the African tribal lady) is a real pain in the arse... the first form is really easy, I can beat her without taking much damage at all.. but the second the second form starts dropping stalagtites all over the place, forget about it. And then the final rush is her throwing a giant meteor, which I can never seem to dodge properly.

I'm playing as Kachi, though I don't really like her lock-on type attacks... since a lot of times I miss the little enemies even when aiming at them b/c I'm locked on to a stronger enemy. Think I might switch to Isa.

It's been a while but I think it was either stage 3 or stage 6.  Stage 6 was pretty tough even on easy.

I dunno, I think overall the game is pretty damn challenging.  Maybe it's because other rail shooters are generally easy (Panzer, Rez, lightgun games), but S&P2 is like a hardcore shmup action game by the end.  I mean I find Cave shmups hard as hell too after the first few stages.

I felt like between the ability to dodge and deflect most things, as well as the pointer based aiming, if you were able to react fast enough, you could survive.  I don't exactly enjoy bullet hell shooters so I can't comment on that comparison.

btw, I only tried Kachi briefly and preferred the way Isa played.  Isa is more my style where it was about dodging and landing strong attacks.

Yeah I don't want to get into a this game was easy/this game was hard derail.  Only reason I brought it up was because when I played the import I had two times where a person IM'd me or PM'd me about how the game was making them rage and wanting tips and I told them to restart on easy, lol.

Any advice for beating Orion Tsang the second time around in stage 7? Soooo close to finishing the game on normal... but I can't seem to attack him later on into the fight.

This is a really nice game...I like that they included controller options for the classic controller and Game Cube controllers, too.  I played using the Wiimote+Nunchuk combo; seems like that would work best.

As on-rails shooter, it puts all the rest to shame.

Nintendo's publishing choices can just be so damn bizzare.  Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, as this game is so incredibly fucking awesome, but its about as anti-mainstream as can be without actually having sprites in it.

its fucking awesome, and likely to sell less then boomboxes do to deaf people.

One strategy I found that works really well in general is to circle around the screen using your dodges... use that to avoid the bullets... target one crane with a power shot, and while waiting for your power shot to recharge, fire regularly at the other crane. Keep on repeating, using power shots on the crane that is lower down the screen. This took me a bit of trouble too, I thought you had to shoot the little dodongo guy as well to keep Isa in the air.

Bebpo: Orion Tsang is the boss with the 2 snakelike tentacles that shoot at you, and then when you destroy them he is in some giant circular ship, that fires its exhaust at you, and bullets from its tentacles. Can't figure out how to beat this guy, and there's not a lot of YT videos for the game out yet.
