Yuck. Another Miami collapse in the 4th. All the Heat played like crap in that quarter including Wade unfortunately.

Tyson Chandler played another beast game.

I know I sound like a broken record but I blame Spoelstra for that game again. I just don't understand how he can't get his team to execute when it counts in this series. I always feel the Heat win despite Spolelstra rather than because of anything he does in the game.

Carlisle helps makes the Mavericks better than what they are. He's a +1. I don't feel Spolestra adds anything. In fact by not doing much he's actually a pretty big negative.

I'm still waiting for the first time they ever cut to Spoelstra in a huddle and he actually says something useful that doesn't feel like he cribbed it from a motivational speech he saw in Hoosiers or something.

He was having a poor shooting night. Wade was by far the hotter player so arguably he should have taken the shot anyway. I didn't really see the set-up but the annoucers said it looked like it was potentially set-up for Wade to dish to Lebron though.  The bobbled inbound pass makes it all moot anyway.

Crazy close series though.

The biggest margin of victory was in the first game 92-84 and that was a close ball game for most of it.

The rest have been
95-93
88-86
86-83

What LeBron had was FAR beyond a bad shooting night. It was a NON-shooting night. He was totally detached for most of the game, in a way that surpassed even game 5 against Boston last year. Never seen anything quite like that. He didn't look tired...or injured...or angry at his teammates...or frustrated by the defense. He just looked vacant and disinterested. Mind-boggling. I can't even speculate as to why.

Carlisle indeed made some killer rotation adjustments in this game. If only the Mavs were making more of these great looks they're getting, he'd look like a friggin' genius. The switching in and out of the zone D is obviously confusing the fuck out of Miami too (which is bizarre because they should be able to pass out of it easy...).

Dirk Nowitzki vs LeBron James
4th Quarter This Series
Nowitzki        James
FG   12-24    3-12
FT   18-18    3-3
Reb   14           7
Pts   44           9

All I can suggest is that Wade's various comments about being the leader and referring to 'my team' etc rubbed LeBron the wrong way, and he pulled a Kobe in gm. 7 vs the Suns in 2006 as revenge. But looking at those numbers suggests this is not just a one-game slump, at least in the 4th quarter. 2 and a quarter pts in the 4Q of a series this close! That's pretty bad if you're the best player on the planet. I SOOOOO want the Mavs to beat these guys now, it's not even funny.

(btw no-one is mentioning it but Wade was the best player on the court tonight, just sick. Well, technically Dirk was sick as well of course...)

My take is that Lebron was trying to be a facilitator that game.  But the problem with that is he still has to get minimum 20 points in a game. That has to be his floor. Nothing less. Even if he puts up a bad shooting night or isn't feelling it on the shooting end his worse is still better than anybody's else best other than Wade on the team.

I also go back to the issue imo that it hurts Lebron not to have a real post up game or play with his back to the basket that is anything other than fade away jumpers. He is having a bit of trouble taking guys off the dribble in this series so he needs other ways to manufacture offense.

well, I think the chances of him having another game as bad as that are even remoter than the chances of Dirk having another game like gm. 1 against OKC, so you can probably relax. It's just bizarre though - watching the replay now, I'm seeing him getting stopped cold by Jason Kidd and getting clowned by Terry. Shouldn't be happening unless there is something wrong mentally.

Nothing like a little fourth-quarter drama to bring in eyeballs.

Game 4 of the NBA Finals, in which the Dallas Mavericks used a late run to trump LeBron James and the Miami Heat 86-83 -- delivered an 11.1 overating rating, the championship series' highest in seven years, according to overnight Nielsens.

The broadcast hit its peak with a 15.5 in the scintillating late moments from 11:30 to 11:45 p.m. ET.

Dunno, seems like Wade's comments+the media questioning his's lackluster (offensive) production would result in LeBron being more aggressive or reckless - not more passive. I dunno, it's some weird shit

I don't tend to try to analyze things on that level. I think often times people just have off games or on games. And its less about what we think it is meaning personality drama.

Whatever the case is he's definitely had a couple of poor games in this series. Wade had a poor series the last one but Lebron is arguably having a worse series in this one.

My guess is that he's simply being too tentative in some cases and too careless in others. Maybe's he's reacting to the poor shots he took down the stretch in that one game, but the solution for that is to be aggressive and get better shots on the inside rather than waiting for the perfect shot. He's also been getting up in the air in the last few games with no clear idea of a plan which isn't good.

If I was a betting man I would still be on the Heat. 3 games left. 2 of them in Miami. But last night was the first real time I thought the Mavs have a decent actual real chance of winning the series. They have strengths I didn't anticipate.

Pistons short list includes Isiah Thomas
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=6636897

Why does Joe Dumars still have a job? How many poor coach hires is he allowed to make, how many times is he allowed to hold onto players too long, how many cases of him siding with players over coaches must happen, etc.

Some mind-numbingly dumb commentary from ESPN  :yuck

Quote
He's managed to average 26.5 points a game although his shooting percentage is at a playoff-low 42.5 percent against the smothering Heat defense. Even with the damaged finger, Nowitzki has increased his rebounding this series to 10.3 a game, more than two above his average in the previous two series.

Hey, you know why some guys get more rebounds in some games? BECAUSE THERE ARE MORE MISSED SHOTS. You don't really think Kevin Love is the greatest rebounder since Dennis Rodman, do you?  ::)

I think the issue with Lebron is that he's playing smaller than Wade not that he isn't scoring like Wade. If he thinks Wade is hot and is letting him take the shots then that makes sense, but there's a lot more Lebron can do than just initiating the offense and then sitting outside the 3pt line. Being a high post guy, a post option against people like Terry or just keeping Chandler off the boards. These all would make things easier for Wade, but there's too much waiting for the 3 by Lebron.

The Mavs are back against the wall, no matter that the series is currently tied. If they lose tonight, the series is pretty much done; no way they take two in a row in Miami, I think. But they've got a good shot at taking one, especially in a Game 7 situation where everything starts to get a little weird. I'd say they know all this pretty well are going to put everything they've got into winning tonight.
