I successfully trolled Avatar long before seeing the film. But yea, once I saw the film I realized while it was alright (and certainly a fun summer movie to see at the theater), it was even easier to lampoon.
Oh wait, is this supposed to be an action movie or what?  I was fine with Avatar until I realized it was mostly story-driven.  If inception allows me to turn off my mind I can forgive it even if I don't end up liking the story.

<am nintenho> this movie was a sequel to the matrix i think it was mostly leo fighting buildings and stuff i think he stole dreams or something i cant tell but its painfully obvious that this kind of stuff can't happen in real life despite its realistic aesthetic so it gets a pretty big F- in my book

He didn't understand it but seemed to think "it might be a masterpiece". All his reviews are confusing reads though. He seemed more interested in bragging about the fact his theater has Kathryn Bigelow sitting in it than anything ele.

I felt sorry for his career.  :fbm

Seriously though, has anyone watched Harry Brown?  While the film's thinly veiled far-right ideals are almost despicable, Sir Caine was pretty awesome in it.  It's a shame that Sir Caine is stuck with feeble old men roles when he could still kick some ass.

I don't mean that I'm going to fall asleep.  If the story bores me, I'll probably be making fun of it to my friends like we did for most of Avatar.  But I'm just asking what the ratio of action to exposition is in this movie.

All indications is it's more of a sci-fi drama than a action movie.

And if this is Nolan's best film to date, then that would have to make this one better than Memento.  That's a pretty tall order, imo.  Certainly sounds promising though.

The reviews are in!

Quote from: Philly Inquirer
The dream logic of Inception -- which deals, like Nolan's far more intriguing Memento, with the architecture of memory and the nature of reality -- is stymied by a clunking script, crammed with expository exchanges and urgent blather.

Quote from: Chicago Reader
Inception delivers dazzling special effects and a boatload of stars, but it sags and eventually buckles under the weight of its complicated premise.

Quote from: New York Observer
None of this prattling drivel adds up to one iota of cogent or convincing logic. You never know who anyone is, what their goals are, who they work for or what they're doing.

Quote from: The Village Voice
It's obvious that Nolan either can't articulate or doesn't believe in a distinction between living feelings and dreams -- and his barren Inception doesn't capture much of either.

Quote from: New York Magazine
I wanted to surrender to this dream; I didn’t want to be out in the cold, alone. But I truly have no idea what so many people are raving about.

Inception is this year's Speed Racer, underappreciated by critics and the masses, only the cineaste elites "get it". :tophat

Here's my review:

Quote from: Joseph Molotov
With conspiracy-addled claustrophobic images swathing the cinematic hooks throughout, Nolan has the intoxicating assuredness of a director who sought the spotlight in order to barrage it with glitter and shrapnel.

Sure, they were pretty straight forward ::)

Memento is challenging but pretty straight forward once you realize the editing and structure of the film.  And if you didn't follow Shutter Island all that well, that's your fault.  It was right in front of you the entire fucking time . :lol

I'm not saying I didn't get both movies, just that they didn't allow me to turn off my brains and enjoy the "thrilling" part. In certain parts, they felt Shayamalanlanesque.

Oh, Jin. :rofl
